for anyone having issues like I did use the side panel options for the Post Process, its where your plugins reside, for some reason everything is greyed out where the video shows for me

If you're using the latest version you should see an option "use for all cameras ...." check both of those boxes and use check octane camera and post process option in the camera setting it won't be greyed out then

You can use mix material or composite material nodes too but I don't like to use that because it's very GPU intensive plus the results are just better with sandwiching different layers and you have more control.

Hello! I was wondering is there any way how you can convert botaniq materials of trees and grass to octane? You can re link all the textures in theory but maybe is there any simpler way to do that?

I have done it manually by just using the albedo, roughness, normal etc Though there is a convert material tab which works most of the times but botaniq’s textures goes through tons of other nodes so that option doesn’t work

Do you find Blender Octane's denoiser is good enough to render animations at reasonable speed? For example at 500 samples does Octane denoising produce usable results?

Yes the denoiser is pretty good. I use around 1000 samples in 1920x1080 resolution and it works fine. Also It really depends on the scene itself If the scene is well lit then 200 samples will also work whereas environment with less light will require way more samples.

there is an octane plugin for blender, it's free for 1 gpu.

yes, as I've stated before for 1 gpu it's free, if you've multiple gpus it will use 1. Free tier for blender exists since 2019 or 2020, something like that@@bbrother92

How did you preview the Gradient Map? Ctrl Shift T for me only opens a new image search, plus searching for the oct emission viewer Node gets me nowhere. *I don`t think the node wrangler is working from the link is working on the new version of oct blend.

Check the google drive link in the description. You’ll find an addon octane helper install that then use Ctrl+Shift+T for node preview.

Thank you for the tutorial! My guy I just discovered if you use a null material instead of specular you can have a light source within the volume cube and can hide it from the camera.

Does the Ychen Dou addon still work in the 2022 version? Love the video, but you too fast man, can't keep up. I thought mixing UNI materials was impossible in blender_octane. So you just layer materials stacking one on top of the other?

Don’t know about that addon I’ll have to check. Yes I stack it up on top of each other also the mixing materials work in Blender octane but I don’t prefer using that method.
