I live in AZ (born and raised). I’ll but on a few pairs of pants, long sleeve shirt and 2 sweatshirts with my hoodie on. I do this in the middle of the day when it’s 105-115. I feel waayyy lighter when just running normally at night. Like I said, born and raised here. Training the way I do would kill most people. Not that I’m fast or strong but just in the sense of being able to deal with the heat while running

This is dope to watch. Prioritizing rest is probably the hardest part because there's a lot to fit into training not including family time. Im doing the same as you in terms of right now my focus is increasing my vo2 max and really boosting my 5k speed. That speed really translates if you are able to PROPERLY FUEL and make it the last 5k ready to race. I'll do a 5k at the beginning of august, one more 5k at the beginning of September, a 10k in mid September, and take that into my specific marathon build. I find it makes thresh hold work so much easier when you're used to hitting paces that are just mainly uncomfortable. Im also looking to go sub 2:30 at CIM so maybe we will find each other in a pack. Thanks for the video man

How do you plan your training? Do you follow a particular periodization method?
@DrewMartig
@DrewMartig Ай бұрын
Good question! Because I started running late in life I’ve realized I’m recent years that I need to develop two things: aerobic development and speed/power. Periodization for me usually looks like slower volume, higher intensity early on, then transitioning to lactate threshold and ultimately marathon or LT2 work as marathon gets closer. Actually just posted part 2 of this series talking about this exactly, check it out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGmwYomllNOcq8ksi=bLWQeh6NLNZYUKsD

If SB1 was 1/2 size too large should I size up in SB2 also? Thanks for the great review. I visited flagstaff a few years ago. Really nice city
@DrewMartig
@DrewMartig Ай бұрын
MY experience was that both are true to size. However the upper on SB1 fits more loosely than SB2, giving SB2 a more snug comfortable fit. Again this is with my feet and my experience taking them out for a few runs. Thanks for sharing, happy running 🙏

Great review!, I am slow heavier runner 52 yo, 82 lbs I do 25 to 30 miles per week, average 9 minutes per mile, do yo think the Superblast 2 will be do it all for me like easy, daily and use it for 5K and 10K races?.
@DrewMartig
@DrewMartig Ай бұрын
@@jorgecastrejon1611 Funny enough, you’re actually the perfect use case for that IMO. Depending on pacing, super shoes that cost upwards of $250 these days can have diminishing returns with heavier or slower runners. And as a result, many folks end up wasting money. In cases like these I’d say something like a SuperBlast would be a great shoe to try out as a do-it-all. They’re cheaper than a carbon plated super shoe but can work better for your mechanics and minimize injury. I’d be wary of only having one pair depending on how many miles you run, so maybe buying one pair as a test is good for a couple weeks, then if you like it investing in a second pair. From then you can alternate shoes to minimize wear and stay injury free. Just a suggestion based on experience of myself and others I coach. 😃

Interesting on frontloading VO2max work. I was playing with a training plan doing that, primarily due to time constraints. I can't run daily during my busy seasons, as production trips have me working 100+ hours a week filming and searching for film subjects in remote habitat (wildlife documentaries). I REALLY miss being in competitive shape, and if I could get into a rhythm I think I've got some good races left in me.
@DrewMartig
@DrewMartig 2 ай бұрын
I have a similar problem with time constraints and the harder sessions definitely make it easier to squeeze good work in. I’ve found I’ve gotten the most PR gains out of 30 min race pace (critical velocity) work. Pretty much anything between 5k and 10k pace for most people. PS: Your work and training balance is impressive! Kudos! 👍
@MyWildBackyard
@MyWildBackyard 2 ай бұрын
@@DrewMartig that was my thought. Been seeing a lot of these hybrid plans making headlines (Parker Valby most recently) and was almost thinking if I could only squeeze 2 sessions in during trips I could focus VO2 and threshold. Consistency is easy when I’m home, but it’s been those training block interruptions that kill me
@DrewMartig
@DrewMartig 2 ай бұрын
@MyWildBackyard My two cents is that the only potential gap would be base aerobic fitness which can limit your ceiling over the long term. But for someone like you who has a strong competitive background I’d bet that’s less of a concern.

Yes! I generally use Maurten and NeverSecond gels and drink mixes. I usually need about 50-60g carbs per hour minimum but honestly need play with it more. I aim for 500mg of sodium per hour minimum as well, but I think it would be optimal to get more - just tough with the amount of salt in supplements these days.
