It’s surprising how much overlap there is in your nonmetal taste with mine and other heavy music fans. The link should probably be studied lol. Also, have you heard Binary Star? Given some of the hip hop inclusions, I feel like you’d like them.

I would say some of these are metal albums/bands or at least metal adjacent/metal among the genre tags. It’s funny how many of the same nonmetal or metaloid albums you hit that I am a big fan of. I don’t think I’ve ever shown Dummy to a metal fan who didn’t like it. I’d reiterate, as others have mentioned, that FNM and Primus are metal bands. Quicksand, Coheed and Cambria and Andrew WK are kinda metal adjacent. Fiona Apple, Portishead, and DMB have little if any direct relationship with metal, all three are awesome, and it’s interesting to see how I have a lot of the same nonmetal bands in my rotation.

I found Gormageddon sometime senior year of high school. I enjoyed that album and it kinda reminded me of Impaled. After that, I never followed up with any other items. After watching their brutal assault 2019, I was floored how badass their new material was. Definitely hit and miss with quality, musianship and how memorable the 1st half of their discography is. I'm currently on global flatline and so far, it's good. Looking forward to getting to their last few albums.

The fact that she liked so many of these as much as she did, I’m surprised you didn’t her into this earlier 😆. She doesn’t even need the gateway bands.

As someone who loves metal but is also Christian, that is more of a hard sell. However, it helps to know the general majority aren't really satanic. The only couple I'd give a bit a caveat is Gorgoroth, Mayhem, and unfortunately Emperor to a smaller degree. Of course, you done have to actually take them seriously lyrically either. That is up to anyone Christian, but still curious about the genre.

For me, Immortal's Sons of Northern Darkness was the gateway album that got me into black metal. It's accessible enough for beginners (Tyrants is a banger!) and encouraged me to dig deeper into the genre

Funnily enough, Deathspell Omega was my gateway. I was (still am) a huge TOOL and Opeth fan, so the absolutely top notch musicianship drew me in pretty easily. Paracletus absolutely blew my mind when i heard it. Then Filosofem from Burzum got me into the atmospheric stuff. Honestly tho, I really dont care for alot of the old stuff still. I just think alot of the modern BM absolutely clears the 1st and 2nd wave and it isnt close. Im picking bands like Inquisition, Wayfarer, Abigor, Agalloch, Akhlys, Molok, Esoctrilihum ext over the og ones.

Future Breed Machine might be the single most effective fanmaking song from Meshuggah, behind maybe only Bleed. It got me into them too when I was 13, 10 years ago. It's generational.
