Silica sand is the best, but expensive. We used a washed river sand.. Grain size between 0.5mm and 1.5mm

Hi, you would have to take a flight to the capital of Mozambique which is Maputo.. The farm is about 300km from Maputo. Arrangements for transport from Maputo to the farm would be done at the time of your trip at no extra cost.

@MyAquaponics1
@MyAquaponics1 18 күн бұрын
Hi, we will be offering installation within South Africa only due to logistics involved . First however we will have to finalize costings for all the components. If you are in Nigeria , you can simply build the grow beds and tank with blocks and cement and a pond sealer. Everything else you should be able to source in Nigeria such as water pumps, air pumps and timer. Not sure if there are companies that build greenhouse tunnels in Nigeria, but their should be. Again, you can build you own structure with steel or wood. We can supply the plastic and shade net if required

If this was on the outside of the media bed like you mentioned could be done, how does that connect?
@MyAquaponics1
@MyAquaponics1 19 күн бұрын
basically have a compartment attached to the side of your grow bed, but same depth. Then just have a few holes drilled across from the grow bed to the compartment where the float drain is installed. This will ensure that the water level in the grow bed rises at the same rate as in the compartment housing the float drain. Of course, holes will have to be small enough to prevent grow media from pouring into the attached compartment . Hopefully I am making sense 😄

Is your pH buffering well with iAVs? Have you needed to add any supplements? Are you all still happy with iAVs and finding it better and easier than your previous systems?

This is not our system, but one of our clients. We do add supplements in most of our systems, especially in winter which we're in now. No real issues with pH which over around the 7 mark and just below. Still very happy with results of IAVS when compared to Aquaponics

Thank you for sharing. The demonstration at the end really helped understand the process. This may help in my situation where a small or varying about of water from ram pumps are pumped to a tank at a higher elevation. Then with an undetermined amount of input water, which can be slow at times, we wish to release quite a bit of water to multiple sprinklers to water pasture. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback.. Yes, others people have suggested similar advice to yours, a physical float stop. That could be as you suggested, or simply a wire or other physical barrier on top.
@markkern8040
@markkern8040 4 ай бұрын
I might have missed it in the video, so forgive me if I am a total idiot. This is a great system, but I assume you put this in a control module and not in the same area as the grow bed where the media is? i.e. how do you handle the media getting into the box and weighing it down? The Bell siphons are inconsistent or can be, but they are also in the grow bed. I LOVE the idea of having something that will work consistently. I saw the video segment where the siphon that was operational for 6 years was working, and it looked like it was in a control module instead of inside the bed itself (i.e. no media around it that I could see)....
@MyAquaponics1
@MyAquaponics1 4 ай бұрын
hi Mark, so yes you can install it in the grow bed or outside of the grow bed. If in the grow bed then you have to have a media barrier frame all around it to prevent the media (i.e. stone or leca) from obstructing the operation of the float. We use a strong plastic crate. The crate allows water through, but prevents the media from getting into the float area. Hope that answers your question ?

I like this a lot. You can just create a physical barrier at the height you want it to stop at and not worry about the length of the pipe.

Nice video' but what is the bio ball filter and the brush bristle is for?
@MyAquaponics1
@MyAquaponics1 5 ай бұрын
Thank, every DWC system requires two types of filtration. Mechanical filtration to separate the solids and Biofiltration to convert toxic ammonia into nitrates for the plants. Bioballs are for biofiltration and the brushes are in the mechanical settlement tank to trap any floating solids

Very interesting. I am looking at this for tropical Asia. Water is abundant so I see very little need to pump it back into the fish tanks. It seems like I can skip the biofilter if I pump it into ebb and flow gravel beds. What if I use the water from these tanks for the deep water culture further down? Will it be too lacking in nutrients then? Also wondering if I should skip those Deep Water Culture beds further down, instead opt for drip feed beds on the ground. I can then add other manure there if need be. Also pondering if I should do azolla and duckweed somewhere in the system. Seems like it would take years to test out the optimal system. Guess I should build one greenhouse, then start with 1/4 of capacity to test it out. Then build out the other beds once I have something that works. The glass fibre beds that work both as ebb and flow and deep water culture is a genius move btw. Standardisation is the ticket.
@MyAquaponics1
@MyAquaponics1 5 ай бұрын
Yes if you have ebb and flow media beds you can get away without a biofilter, all dependant on fish stocking densities.. Yes, you could use drip irrigation instead of DWC. Personally I would go with sandponics (sand grow beds).. Have a look at our Sandponics videos (Part 2-4) on our youtube channel. We do let duckweed grow on our DWC to feed to the fish .

@MyAquaponics1
@MyAquaponics1 6 ай бұрын
No, you don't need a siphon with Sandponics.. Please refer to the "Part 2 Sandponics" video on our youtube channel to see how we made the outlet. Flood and drain cycle is controlled by a timer. Of Course, no reason why you could not use the solution on this video in a Sandponics bed if you don't have a timer.

Thanks a lot for sharing this. I have question: Does sandponic system still need solid filter and biofilter systems before the grow beds?
@MyAquaponics1
@MyAquaponics1 6 ай бұрын
No need for extra filters. The sand handles it all. Hence why it’s simpler and cheaper to build than an aquaponics system . Of course nothing stopping you from adding extra mechanical or bio filtration if you want , but in our experience absolutely not required
