Thank you for the tour. Absolutely fascinating and revealing of the level of effort and care your instruments go through. Music in the background was just lovely. Your version of Amazing Grace was a blessing as you closed the show. I strive to have my tunes recognizable but pray with time and patience and some of God's blessing I may one day be good enough to play for our church.

I noticed that when you're using your fingers to tune the dulcimer that you seem to place them about an inch away from the bridge. Is there any certain place on the strings that would be optimum for tuning?

Are you now selling stringed psalteries in 2023 - 2024? I am interested in a V-shaped pentatonic model with appx 32 strings.

I swear to god I just called them today because I broke a string on my moms I thought Was a pioneer But this looks exactly like the one I have now Guess now I know There great people Offered to send me a new string for the one I broke trying to tune it after years of just sitting in the music room of my mom’s house I was so impressed With there Costumer service There great people I just told them to send me a whole new set of strings for it It was cheap in my opinion for the set These people care about not only there instruments no matter when they made them But they also care about the people they sold them too I will be a life long customer Just by the way they treated me today with my moms old hammer dulcimer There customer service is unbelievable in this day and age They are fantastic If I want a new hammer Dalcimer Which I think I will They will be the ones I will spend my hard earned money with

Am I the only one wondering wouldn't it be nice if he told us the actual NOTE each string is tuned to?

I saw a hammered dulcimer somewhere that only had a single bridge. It might have also only been single-strung and not double-strung. But I can't remember.

did you play it to the right side of the bass bridge? I though that was forbidden to do lol

Thank you so much for this. I saw this instrument in a thrift store - brand new and in perfect condition. I had no idea what it was, but I like "unusual " instruments and I couldn't resist buying it. Now I just have to experiment with it and learn how to play it. Rock on!

You give quite clear instructions on how to tune this instrument accurately and safely but at no time do you explain what notes to tune the strings to. While you have explained the process of tuning the instrument, without knowing the notes, one can not successfully tune it without this knowledge.
@taniaopland3 жыл бұрын
This varies between instruments. You should have a tuning chart from the maker of your instrument. If you don't have one, they will almost certainly provide one if you contact them. If you CAN'T get one for your instrument, you may have to guess. In general, if you have a standard american style HD, the top marked bridge (every third bridge should be marked in some way) is USUALLY (not always) tuned on the right side to F, an octave and a half above middle C. That makes the left side of that same bridge (again, USUALLY) a C two octaves above middle C. Note carefully that I'm NOT referring to the top string. This is the top marked bridge, usually one or two below the top one. If your top bridge is also a marked bridge, don't guess. You have a non-standard instrument and you need to ask someone familiar with dulcimers.

And if you don't have a chart ?@@taniaopland

@@reallyoldtom9352 If you don’t have a chart and can’t get one from the maker… read the rest of my comment. If that doesn’t help, then you probably need to find a book on the subject, or a find dulcimer player who can look at your instrument.

Excellent! We just bought a MasterWorks 16/15c dulcimer for my wife after she took a liking and we rented one for while. Well it wasn't the most in-tune straight from the shop, so I'm pleasantly to surprised to find a tuning video straight from the master! :)

Wow. It's like having several different versions of the same instrument. Can different strings make yet another tonal difference, or is that even a thing with dulcimer hammer instruments? I'm blown away just on the differences the hammers can make.

My name is Judi Smith, and I live in central Missouri and have two Russell Cook Edition Hammered Dulcimers and I just absolutely LOVE them!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart Russell for changing my life in such a positive way!! I have been on a tour of your wonderful shop and it just amazed me to see how you all build a hammered dulcimer from start to finish!! You all are just amazing to me and I appreciate the kindness you all showed me when Gary and I were there both times!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!! God Bless! :)
