I would say that self esteem is most definitely real. For example, I have seen average skilled people with high self esteem in good jobs and highly intelligent, capable people working shifts and barely scraping by. If you are a parent, you owe it to your child to build their sense of self worth, or they may be in for a lifetime of being taken advantage of and never realize their true value in the workplace, relationships, friendships etc.
