I really think the developer needs to clarify if those AI Redeploy moves during Dust Storm rounds follow the normal restrictions that players have to obey when they are in the redeploy step. I would assume they do since it seems like AI always have the same rules players do, but I don't think it says for sure. If the AI does have the same restrictions then these redeploy moves get a lot simpler. It pretty much turns into "leave everything where it is unless it has to move, and if it has to move try to keep one rebel in every space with a base, and three rebels in any space they are allowed to stay in where there is room for another base".
@jtfike2 ай бұрын
Simplification makes every game better. It would make this better. The cheaty moves is the only thing that made this game competitive, however.
@wombatgirl9972 ай бұрын
The whole attack ambush card thing was driving me crazy so I looked in the example of play. You can find this on page 22 of the Curiosity rulebook. The AI picks two spaces to ambush in, using the ambush bubble chart to decide among any spaces with a hidden rebel in it. Those are automatically the first two it attacks in, and you don't make an activation roll for those spaces, it always attack both. Then you move to the Attack section of the card, and it works its way down the list of priorities on the AI card, using the attack bubble chart to decide what order to attack in. For instance using the red dust card you can see at 2:10:33 it will first attempt to attack in every space that is at support, again using the bubble chart to decide what order to attack in. Now is when you start rolling activation numbers (since the numbers on the card are white text in a black circle) so whenever an AI does ambush attack you know you will always get at minimum three attacks, two of which will be ambushes. If the AI gets through all the spaces at support where it could legally attack and hasn't failed an activation roll yet then it moves to the next numbered bubble on the AI card, in this case "3+ rebels and not opposition" and again uses the attack bubble chart to figure out what order to do all those in. Obviously it cant ever attack in the same space twice. I can see why the card is confusing, but it really does work if you follow the order.
@jtfike2 ай бұрын
so the ambush happens no matter what. 2 attacks. And then it does regular attacks with AN checks along the way?
@wombatgirl9972 ай бұрын
That seems right based on what I read in the book. You only do activation number rolls after performing an operation, ambush is a special activity. So pick two spaces to ambush in, resolve those ambushes, pick your first space to regular attack in, then activation rolls as usual after that first regular attack. This is definitely the weirdest part of these AI cards.
@jtfike2 ай бұрын
@@wombatgirl997 It is certainly weird. Because while I agree "Ambush" is first, the actual action states "used with attack for 2 spaces". So we could identify 2 ambush spots like the card says...or just ambush the first two we find with the regular attack action. I dunno. It is wonky for sure. Sometimes I think GMT gets too "cute". Things like move or whatever require you to cross reference multiple sources. It is such a basic element of the game. It should not be left to ambiguity. Even if an action like "move" is complex, it should still be clear. Crystal clear. This game has several things: Flash round (that is clear) Alderin cycle (also clear) Dust storm (clear) Move (ambiguous) attack (partially ambiguous) Change support/opposition (clear) build bases (clear) They nailed most of it. But left two key areas with ambiguity.
