Thanks for sharing! Just for everyone who hasn’t gone anywhere like this yet, understand the bears are pretty low on the list of what can kill you, and act accordingly. The drive there and back home is your greatest danger! Driving tired to make a deadline, or driving at night in general - FAR more likely to get your family killed than a bear. Bison kill more people than bears. Moose kill more people than bears. Falling trees (not kidding) kill more people than bears. Being ‘Bear Aware’ is good! But taking those precautions but not even being aware that you should check for dead trees when you make camp for the night is really, really backwards.

You should create a FL hike. I’m not sure I could do a big hike like this, but I wouldn’t mind doing a small hike in central Florida or nearby.

I don't live nor have ever been in moose or bear country, but what I've heard from every reality show and wildlife shows is that moose are always unpredictable and can be deadly. Unfortunately they can also be a favorite of poachers. Thank God you all came out safe. The end of the trip when you were all in the lake, the joy I heard from all of you sounded invigorating. It sounds like a lot of work and a lot of reward. 😃😃👋👋💖💖

I enjoy all the animal footage. Sorry to hear the moose was charging you. Can’t blame a mama. You got your steps in for that day. Thumbs up to the lady that did the hike with challenges. What beautiful scenery. The craziness just adds to the fun memories.

You are such an amazing woman Allie! I think, as women, we sometimes forget who we are when we take on the roles of wife and mother. Our individual self gets pushed back and back so it's really important to take the time to do things for ourselves away from those roles even though we love them. The beauty of your surroundings was breathtaking and the lovely women who were with you and shared their stories with you helped you to remember who Allie is and maybe learn some new things about that crazy/beautiful/caring Allie. Love you and glad mama moose didn't hurt anyone.

SO glad you finally got out and experienced the true wilds! Now keep it up and go on more trips! As a hardcore solo backpacker and perpetually interested on what other hikers are carrying... We need an AllieWes gear list! What tent did you take? What's the pack: type and size in liters (example: mine's a 70+ liter Osprey Aether). Your sleeping bag? Pad? Stove? Trail shoes or boots? What was your base weight on the pack (that's the weight of the pack and everything in or on it -- minus what you're wearing at that very moment and minus consumables like food, fuel, and water)? If you read other's gear lists, my questions could go on ad nauseam! 😂😉 I still have to put together the vids for my three trips from this summer. Next summer I have my eye on thru hiking the Colorado Trail. 4 to 6 weeks, +/- 500 miles depending the various routes.

I've been backpacking in the Canadian Rocky mountains for over 40 years, and yes, every trip is different even when it's a trail that I've been on many times. Too many people just don't respect the wilderness as much as they should, the come with too much ego and often get into trouble (I certainly did as a young person). But in the end the beauty and majesty of the mountain back country is worth all the efforts needed to get to these special places.
