Quick question. The hdmi to SDI micro convertor has 1 hdmi input and 2 SDI outputs. Can you use both of those outputs at the same time?

Very helpful! What's the best way to get the remote editor's work if all they are doing is organizing footage and favoriting clips? Since nothing would be in a project yet. Is that possible?

I believe (haven't tried this in a long time) that all of those favorites and keyword collections would follow with the Library file, with or without a Project.

I learned that DaVinci does not work with 3rd party HDMI capturing cards, but only with Blackmagic products. So what should I have to capture the video signal from the SLR camera (Mini HDMI Output) to the computer and record directly in DaVinci?
@LearnVideowithSpencerT
@LearnVideowithSpencerT 28 күн бұрын
This would be possible with a variety of cards or external USB devices.. anything on this page that specifies HDMI input would work: www.blackmagicdesign.com/products You'll also need a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable for any of these. They are cheap and easy to find.

Amazing video! I’d have a question.. What about if I have a 1080p output with video and audio. Is it possible to use the Mini Converter HDMI to SDI, get the 2.0 sound from the jacks and video from the SDI output? Or maybe another solution is to use the Micro converter HDMI to SDI 3G and get the sound from the 2nd SDI output and de-embed into a Mini Converter SDI to Audio? Are one of these feasible?

What's the goal here? To add audio to the stream, or de-embed the camera audio?

Mini Converter Quad SDI to HDMI 4K can someone explain this converter to me
@LearnVideowithSpencerT
@LearnVideowithSpencerT 3 ай бұрын
It looks like this converter is no longer produced. If you happen to have one, it allows you to either convert one 6G SDI signal into 4K HDMI, or sum either 2 3G SDI signals or 4 HD-SDI signals into 4K over HDMI.

I have a BMD Bi-Directional SDI/HDMI 3G converter. 1) This works fine when I connect a video source to SDI IN and HDMI OUT to Monitor #1. 2) It also works if I connect a laptop to HDMI IN and SDI OUT to Monitor #2 with BMD Micro Converter SDI to HDMI. This also works if I have the above plus HDMI OUT to Monitor #1. It also works if I replace this second monitor with a different monitor. This will be important in a bit. 3) The problem occurs when I connect the video source to SDI IN and SDI OUT to Monitor #2 and HDMI OUT to Monitor #1. What I see is that both monitors flash on and off. The same thing occurs if I replace Monitor #2 with another monitor. If I disconnect Monitor #2, the other Monitor (#1) works just fine. If I have Monitor #2 connected and disconnect Monitor #1, the problem is still there. I bought a second BMD Bi-Directional SDI/HDMI 3G converter and it did the same thing. Monitor #2 is not the problem as I tried a different monitor in step 2) with good results, and the problem repeated itself in 3). I also tried a two other SDI to HDMI converters (BMD and cheap Chinese model) at Monitor #2 with the same results. To summarize: If I connect a video source to SDI IN and SDI OUT goes to Monitor #2, I get both Monitors flashing. If I disconnect Monitor #2 from the SDI connection, Monitor #1 works just fine. Any ideas what is wrong or something else I need to try?
@LearnVideowithSpencerT
@LearnVideowithSpencerT 4 ай бұрын
Nothing super obvious here, so here's what I would try: 1. Have you connected the USB to a computer and seen if there is a firmware update available? Download and run the Blackmagic Converters Setup software from their website if you haven't. 2. You can also use the above software to edit the settings on the device. It's possible you need the change the SDI Out settings from Level A to Level B, or vice-versa. 3. Is this a field monitor we are talking about? It sounds like something that takes SDI in directly. If so, see if there are video-in settings you can adjust... it's possible the SDI Out is coming in at 1/2 the frame rate/data rate as what that monitor needs or is looking for.

Hi Spencer, highly appreciated that you talked a lot more about video than about photo unlike almost all other reviewers! Nevertheless do I think that you undererstimate the problem with overheating in 120P 4K. The overheating problem starts with switching on, not just with with recording. This will most likely be even more true if the pre-recording feature is used. Wildlife people like me sometimes have to wait the 22 or 26 minutes or more just until the desired action takes place. Switching on when the actions starts is no best practice. So the camera stays on in pre-recording mode, doesn't yet produce a video (waiting for the action...) and starts to overheat. Switching off after 22 or whattheever minutes due to overheating is a deal-breaker for the desired action. That's what's not really attracting me in terms of this R5 upgrade. Also the cooling grip might produce a permanent sound that animals will definitely be able to detect, so that might also be not really feasible. Animals can also hear the (or humans) silent AF motors. I am interested in your opinion of this aspect. KR Ralf

@LearnVideowithSpencerT 5 ай бұрын
Hi KR, Very cool that you are doing that kind of video work! It seems like you have assessed it pretty thoroughly, my only thought was using an external recorder… but it doesn’t support 120p output. A larger cine-style camera will allow for unlimited 4K 120p, but might be louder and most certainly will be bulkier. Not ideal, but probably the better of the two options, although the R5 fan attachment might not be too bad

Can anyone tell me if I need some kind of booster I'm coming straight out of a computer and to 6 daisy chained televisions the farthest distance is 80 ft. Thanks
@LearnVideowithSpencerT
@LearnVideowithSpencerT 6 ай бұрын
Yes. HDMI degrades after approx. 50 feet. Best option is probably to run HDMI>SDI from computer, then put an SDI>HDMI box at every TV. They run on USB power now, so you can just stick the box behind the TV at each location and use the SDI passthrough to continue your daisy chain.

First! By the way, the recording limit doesnt mean it will overheat after 15 minutes. I think this might be misunderstood by viewers if not explained correctly. You can still record after, and most users notice the heat after an hour. It will improve if you are in a temp controlled environment. Another thing is this is meant for quick point and shoot situations but with full frame quality. Most users will shoot short bursts rather than record a full dinner or timelapse. But, if you wanna go pro. All these have workarounds. Limit, hotshoe, grip, evf... these all have workarounds. Its just not needed by casual users.

Appreciate the clarification that you don’t have to shut it down after 15 minutes necessarily. I think this camera is great for what it’s designed for, just not for the kinds of shooting I do most often

Nice video... but... GH5 has 4k 60P 10 bits HDMI out, stereo mic, optional(400,00 $) full XLR module, 12 stop DR( not 13 :/)

Forgive my ignorance about the 4K60p 10-bit output, I just confirmed that yes, you are right. I never shoot in NTSC mode on mine, which is why I've never seen that option. Mic might be stereo, but it's still bad. XLR module is overpriced. I misspoke on the DR, but it's semantics - the GH5 is not good in low light situations. I'd consider updating this video, but the market has changed a lot in 4 years!

Appreciate your succinct features, benefits and value analysis. Also, realistic perspective on price…”if you’re in this range, this is remarkable value and ecosystem” kind of language. These are pro-grade entry level price that still holds pretty true today. We use two BMPCC 4K’s, but if these were out, would likely have bought them 4 years ago. Would have had a hard time justifying the pro over plus, but pro has better future value.
