Wow, I didn't know that example neuralgia can cause chronic migraine! I have occipital neuralgia and chronic migraine and I'm so very tired of them both. And then referred to a migraine specialist, I'm hoping that they can help my acceptable neuralgia, too, and if that doctor can't then he or she will know of a doctor who can. Thank you for this video, was very informational!

If white matter lesions are confluent and symmetrical, along with a history of migraine with aura (especially hemiplegic migraine), CADASIL (Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy), a genetic cerebral small vessel disease and the most common inherited form of stroke (lacunar), ought to be considered as a possibility.
@Neuralgroover4 ай бұрын
@@meandcadasil7093 yes cadasil has a very obvious and stand out pattern though. The appearance is typically is very easily differentiated from other causes and patterns.
@meandcadasil70934 ай бұрын
@@Neuralgroover, I agree that the pattern is distinctive, yet so many people are still misdiagnosed as having MS (many doctors still unaware of CADASIL). The pattern and location of white matter lesions alone, however, is not enough to make a diagnosis of CADASIL. Taking a thorough family history; understanding the range of symptoms; the significance of symmetrical pattern of confluent white matter lesions; and knowing that there is a Notch3 mutation genetic test available, will help to decrease the incorrect diagnoses of MS. Intesrestingly, though, there are documented cases of people with a dual diagnosis of CADASIL and MS.

I get exercise induced scintillating scotoma, but no headache. Does not happen every time I exercise ( tennis /gym) but is the classic symtom lasting about 30 min, ring shaped. shimmering defect that enarged then fades , no actual migraine symptoms . Is the common ?

@@John--nj4lp some people do get migraine aura without headache, which we call a migraine equivalent syndrome. However, we typically get a brain MRI and MRA for either migraine aura without headache or exertional migraine, so I would still suggest discussing with your doctor.👍

Have you heard of the Low Glutamate Diet? And also Low Histamine diet bc perhaps for some high histamine in foods or weather can a trigger, I guess bc they don’t have a gene that helps body get rid of excess histamine? I think tomatoes (either bc of histamine or glutamate) are a trigger for me. I think it’s so important for folks who suffer migraines to keep a journal of foods, weather (changes,temperature,pressure), season, stress level, monthly cycle for girls, foods and drinks to look for a migraine pattern, and then eliminate foods eaten weekly one by one for a few weeks to see if it helps. I know one child who eliminated aspartame from his diet sodas which helped. I wish everyone out there w migraines that they find a solution. I know how terrible migraines can be. I read they can damage white matter (WMH) and possibly lead to dementia or stroke? They run in our family. Maybe an ion defect in our brains. Whichever ion channel is leaking maybe. I appreciate learning about at-home ways to help if we can’t see a dr. Supplements and learning triggers and avoiding them. Thank you again, have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Good question! Glycine is actually an amino acid which acts as an inhibitory (blocks overactivity) neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It helps regulate brain activity by inhibiting the transmission of signals between nerve cells.

Thank you. I recently had a brain MRI show white matter (I'm 59) and have experienced upsetting and traumatic experiences in the past 2 years. For the past 18 months or so, I've been experiencing headaches, eye pressure behind my left eye and weird left side sensation as well as a couple of bouts of dizzying sensations. Im currently waiting for my spine MRI result and going to have a second brain MRI to compare with the first one. My neurologist seems to think my emotional state and trauma may be causing my physical symptoms. I know the brain is a powerful thing and can, indeed, cause many physical symptoms if it believes that the body is in danger (fight or flight/central nervous system).
@Tad-For-Global-Peace8 ай бұрын
Hi, I just want to tell you you were not alone. I have been diagnosed with vestibular migraines. I used to get migraines when I was younger, but then they switched to a new form of migraine called vestibular migraine, which is kind of common so I know what it’s like to be doing nothing and suddenly get a quick dizzy spell that last a couple seconds. It’s really scary and I’m sorry you’re going through that. With vestibular migraines, there can be head pain or no head pain, and you could be dizzy during the migraine after the migraine or before the migraine. Sometimes you can get earful, tinnitus, ear, pressure, ear pain because the migraine is affecting your entire vestibular system. I also have BPPV but that is something I’m not too concerned about because I just need a certain head movement position to re-position the crystals in my ear and it’s known that those who have vestibular migraines it’s common to also have BPPV. I had an MRI done recently and it showed white lesions so that’s why I’m here trying to learn about it. I hate that there is a connection between dementia and strokes with people who have migraines kind of makes me worry to be honest, but there’s nothing I could do about it. I don’t have high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol, but those white lesions are from migraine versus plaque. I believe I hope I’m waiting to see my doctor to talk about the results of the MRI. Please see Dr. Michael Teixido Here on KZbin. He has a great channel that discusses migraine and vestibular migraines and all the other balances diseases, etc. he’s great.

Migraines can have certain kinds of predome auras that happen before someone gets a migraine with or without pain, depending on where the spreading depression is some people get a visual aura, some people can get a sensory aura where they feel tingles, etc. and then some people could get a motor aura where they get paralyzed, and some people can also get an aura where they get confused and they can’t talk.
