If you let the dark pieces soak in stain, you won’t have to restrain them after sanding.
@RepRevMake4 ай бұрын
Maybe, but you also run the risk that the pieces will swell

Bro, why is your riving knife rattling around?!
@RepRevMake4 ай бұрын
It was most likely loose, this saw had a number of faults which meant that I got a new one under warranty
@julianclothier48303 ай бұрын
I have the exact same saw. Took me a while to realise the riving knife on these has only two settings. Fully up or fully down. No in between setting positions or it will come loose.

After watching this, I hope you still have all your fingers and no other injury's. Gloves and long sleeves are not a good combination with a table saw.
@RepRevMake4 ай бұрын
Luckily still have them, I agree with this but I also agree with another woodworker here on youtube who said it's better to work with warm fingers with gloves than cold fingers without gloves on a table saw. So in those cases where it is very cold I will still wear gloves but I know the risk and will be even more careful near the blade.
@schnuffelhase19685 ай бұрын
Nice design! But please never work with gloves at your table saw ... we had one colleague at work who lost 2 fingers because his glove got caught by the saw blade and then his hand was sucked into the blade 😢

Awesome work. I wonder what wouldl happen if you used a dye instead of a stain. Would the dye penetrate enough to not be sanded away after gluing??

I know this is quite a bit old at this point but im making your board now. Couldnt get everything flat so i had to sand it all down. (removing the stain haha) how did you keep the stain from bleeding under the tape? i tried it on one of my scrap pieces and it bleeds pretty noticeably.
@RepRevMake8 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, but I think that I stained them before gluing them together helpt and that the glue between the pieces kept it from bleeding between them.

Being a norwegian i can remember in the 1800s how hard life was in those days: The average workman WORKED inside their house in one room, ATE in that same room, SLEPT in that room, ENJOYED that same room, fornicated inside the same room, the only thing they did NOT was defecated INside of that room (but out of the house) . Now Norway is one of the richest countries thanks to OiL but remember there is "PeakOil" ("Oil, Smoke & Mirrors" KZbin video)🥲

@@RepRevMake What i am trying to tell you is that the wealth of Norway can be very low if Peakoil is the final solution. Your working place will be reduced as it was in the 1800s. Understanding PEAKOIL and its consecuences is a must in our society.

Good work it's a beautiful lamp and lot of work. Just an advice, don't use gloves when you work with saw(table saw, bandsaw or other) your glove can get caught in the saw. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, or jewelry. I subscribe, your channel is interesting.
@RepRevMake Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I have almost stopped wearing gloves now. But as I saw someone else on KZbin here say, wearing gloves in winter is almost safer than not wearing them. This is because it is better to have gloves and warm fingers than no gloves and cold stiff fingers. But apart from this, I have stopped wearing gloves when using saws.

It's a Black & Decker saw, can't remember the number. But I don't recommend it. Changed it once (warranty issue) because the crank to raise and lower the saw blade stopped working. Now I think that is happening with the new saw as well.

18mm or 3/4", but you can use thinner also but then you need to make more strips to make it the same size.

Nice product but, but I cringe at the lack of basic safety. No blade guard. Hands too close. Blade set about two fingers too high. Cutoffs squeezed between the blade and fence waiting to rocket out. Reaching into the blade with a plastic stick. Dude, be more careful so you can have more 10 finger videos. ✌🏻

Very nice board. Lots of work, craftmanship and patients went into it. I agree with the other comments about wearing gloves and saws. Dangerous! Other than that, the only suggestion I would have... well... 28 minutes of that redundant music was going to drive me insane, even at very low levels. It took away from the joy of watching you create. I didn't want to mute it in case you started talking at some point but I did turn it way down. Even then, at very low levels, I jumped ahead several times just to see the completed project and end the video.

Sorry but I do not know French, but if google translated you correctly you were wondering which glue I used. To glue the wood together, I use regular wood glue, but what I reckon you were wondering is what glue I used between the wood and the plexiglass. That was CA glue (Cyanoacrylate) also known as superglue. The CA glue I used also has a spray that makes it dry right away. The glue I used is bought in Norway and is not sold outside Scandinavia, but you can only search for Cyanoacrylate glue. The size of each block is 3.2cmx3.2cm.

This is a nice project. Your safety concerns me. You had a wobbly table saw (bad) and your hands and fingers were way too close to the cutting blade (very bad). It is very important for you to show the utmost in safety as people see this and replicate. If you aren't cautious enough in your video, others certainly won't be. Other than all that, your pieces turned out very nice. Thanks!
