played WARZONE 2100 recently, still a gem of a game and its freeware now too. I hope they fix this always online thing on MEN OF WAR 2 since I haven't got a internet connection right now, played all the betas and absolutely loved them all. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? what a shame

Great choices! I still consider SGS Heia Safari the very best of the SGS games, and my favorite. I just got my copy of "Schutztruppe" from Compass Games to carry on the struggle of Gen. Lettow-Vorbeck leading the Entente around Africa by the nose. Also, huge fan of Rise of the White Sun - I just need to spend more time with it, as currently I get stomped pretty quickly.

They just need to copy total war's mechanics tbh

both Cold Waters and War on the Sea are from the same developer... Both games prepresent a good base game, but they shine with mods. Cold Waters has (in my opinion) a great add-on with Epic mod... you get to play USSR/Russia and China SSK, SSN, SSG, SSGN, SSB, SSBN... so the playability bame huge. Too bad campaign will throw incredibly unfair missions based on random, but nevertheless its quite challenging and will provide a lot of fun hours of gameplay. As for War on the Sea, the base game trapped me in something like 1000 horus of gameplay since open beta, but nowadays the game became too repetitive for me, there are a couple of mods (The Tokyo Express, ABDACOM defense, Centrifugal offensive, and the soon-to-be-released indian ocean campaign) but never really tried none

Sadly Wolfpack is dying. The devs don't care too much about the community and their last patch 6 months ago broke the game to a level that it is unplayable. The base conception is good but it needs a competent dev team.

Great mod but not campaign

Man you couldn't be more wrong about spells lacking impact, it's likely you haven't figured out how to utilise them yet... SO the way you use spells properly is to create a team composition that maximises the gain of one or two essences while levelling up the hero skills for them. That way you get to consistently cast the spells of those colours every turn, multiple times per turn if they're cheap enough (this is the big difference between homm3 and SoC, multiple spell casts per turn). If you know what you're doing, you can absolutely break the game in half or hard counter otherwise strong compositions.
