Oi, American here (Texan specifically) and this is the kinda stuff I wish we learned in our history classes. Here in TX we learn about our history as a republic prior to joining the Union, as well as a small bit of Mexican history, but Buenos Aires was basically never mentioned in any of our books. I imagine our Nation’s bonds with Argentina, Columbia, Chile, etc. would be much stronger if anyone up here actually knew about them. This is a great video, I can’t wait to see what elder you’ve done and what you plan to do

Brazil never rebelled. So why would it break up? Napoleon taking over in Lisbon made Brazil the new Portugal.

Brazil was part of the kingdom of Portugal, had the only European capital outside of Europe, became a large and diverse country like the United States, while Mexico and other Hispanic countries became poor and small. Brazil and the United States were the only colonial countries that became richer and more relevant than their colonizers.

Mexican here 🇲🇽 Hispanoamérica can still unite. It is so dumb people want their “independence” even if that means economic instability, useless bureaucracy and a weak military. Also even unite with Brazil and switch the Capital to the center of the Amazon to protect it right

Because, in those countries, the European culture didn't take over these countries' cultures. Most of them still look like they did before colonization.

As a Brazilian I can say that it is a disgrace. Brazil need to be splited in at least 20 countries. Look at the differences between the Spanish American countries, in Brazilian we are all doomed into socialism.

Saying that the Dominican Republic was annexed peacefully is absurd 😂😂 The Haitian Emperor comitted genocide and forced an 80% tax on the people who weren’t haitian/black. 🇩🇴 Was majority mixed and only had 12k slaves when the Spanish were in power. It was abolished when they became independent. Twice. Once from Spain & The Haiti.

As a brazilian, i can say that was not only beacuse we would return to be a colony (that influenced as well) that made Dom Pedro I declare independence, but was his own father that told him to do. Why? Beacuse in 1820 in Portugal the Porto's revolution take it off many privilige of monarchy, so to the royal family don't lose all power that they had they made the independence in Brazil at 1822

It is funny that the provinces that wanted to remain with Portugal are now the ones that most hold back and drag Brazil's economy down. There is still a desire for the South of Brazil to separate from the rest of the country.

San Martin’s monarchic proposal was intended to be rejected from the beginning. Unitarian representatives from Buenos Aires wanted to name a European prince as head of state but San Martin opposed the idea. His argument was that if the country should have a king, that should be the descendent of the last Inca emperor, who unlike European princes was at least born in the Americas. Since he knew that representatives from Buenos Aires would never agree to appoint a non-white king, the goal of his proposal was to force them to agree to create a republic.

"Spanish" America didn't unite because, contray to USians belief, they're all different countries. The only thing they have in common is the language. While some countries have a primarily indigenous population (Mexico, Peru, Bolivia), others have significant numbers of blacks (Colombia) and others are chiefly white (Argentina, Uruguay). Mexican and Peruvian mindsets are the result of milenary cultures, whereas Argentines and Uruguayans keep the traditions of European settlers. They wouldn't, and currently don't understand each other.

As a brazilian from Bahia, at the point D. Pedro declared independency, Bahia was already in war against Portugal (started in June 25th of 1822) in search for independency, what is stated as "Bahia trying to remain portuguese" is in fact Portugal doing everything they could to keep the provincy (wich was the bigger port in the Atlantic South because of its short distance to trade routs in Africa). After Brasil proclamed independency some troops where sent but the war was already strongly ongoing and Bahia was NOT trying to return to Portugal but the later was trying ro hold Bahia with everything they had.

The war endend in July 2nd pf 1823, in Salvador, where General Madeira de Melo from portugal surrended. The day is still celebrated as Brasil's Independency in Bahia. The idea of D. Pedro simply declaring independency is a mith crated by southestern elites in order to produce a historiography that leaves the southeast as the cente of Brasillian free history, and today, more and more oficial historiography accept that Brasil independency is more related to the war them D. Pedro's proclamation. Mostly because lots of important people took part in this event, for example Maria Quiteria, first women in brazilian military and Matron of Brazilian Army
