It helps to understand what we're trying to do with their center of gravity. Looking at it from that point of view, I see that the first action moves them back with lots of space for you to pull their COG. To get the throw, we have to block. Since they're positioned to our north so far, it makes sense to use the space to pull them to our south rather than to our east. This helps me think about whether it's a push or pull or whatever, all depends on what the direction and where the trip is placed I suppose.

Do you think that kettlebell training builds enough strength for high level judo, or is it necessary to do barbell work too? The reason I ask is I love kettlebells and sandbags, but don't like barbells much. But if I need the barbell, I can use it anyway. I'm in-73kg and have a 16kg and double 24kg KBs.
