Great looking line and sail management and cooking! Thank for sharing. Yuuum! I’d like more personal story like your sailing background, how long you’ve owned tortuga and took to prepare it. It would have made a good story to know how many boats in class and overall etc. Even details like concerns over getting sleep and keeping watch would be good addons. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve had Tortuga for 25 years The SHTP race prep takes as long as you have :) But really you need about a year to get everything ready and test it out and do shake down sails to make sure everything is dialed in.

I know you are super busy singlehanded, but I would really like to see less description and more actual footage of you running the boat. Raising sails, tacking singlehanded with a cutter rig, reefing, all the huge challenges for solo sailors running a bigger boat. Less experienced sailors (I am one) can really learn a lot from just watching you manage all aspects of the boat. Much appreciated!

You need a big electric fan and a generator so you can blow air on the sail. Put the fan up front and face towards the stern. Would that be legal?

Great compilation! I'm in the process of finding a W32, and trying to learn about the pros and cons of their various setups. I noticed that you have a loose-footed staysail. What are the benefits and disadvantages of that mode, compared to having a staysail boom? Thanks!
@westsailtortuga3179Күн бұрын
I like not having a boom on deck and the loose footed staysail, but short handed there is something to be said for short tacking and not having to sheet it in all the time with a boom. I think it comes down to person preference.

If your cruising it doesn't make much difference if its going 5 6 7 knots.. and 10 knots are only if you've got a catamaran 😊

I was on RC for a Flying Scot nationals, and we had ~200 Flying Scots on the line. It was a very aggressive fleet, and two boats collided. One boat almost lost its mast. The other was broadsided and almost lost his shroud.

Exciting! Too bad you had to retire because of low/no winds. Thanks for posting. A couple of questions: Do you have a self tacking staysail? How did you rig it? Noticed you have replaced the yankee with a full genoa. Does the staysail stay interfere with the genoa when tacking? Best wishes, Arctic Loon WS#77
@westsailtortuga31793 ай бұрын
My staysail is not self tacking. When i’m flying the bigger jib, I do have to help it around the staysail stay in light winds sometimes but it generally will tack over. Thanks!

Is your mainsail cut shorter than the factory sail ( at the foot)? Thanks to share your sailing, good times👍
@westsailtortuga31793 ай бұрын
Yes my mainsail has a shorter foot and full battens compared to the standard mainsail cut. It is better for weather helm and doesn’t seem to affect performance much by being slightly smaller. Thanks!
