To have that film auteur stamp, you should have recorded yourself dancing in slow motion, like Robert DeNiro playing Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull's phenomenal opening sequence, shadowboxing to the rueful tune of Cavalleria Rusticana, the scene bathed in oceanic black and white cinematography. Picture Jemima Rose tossing her hair in slow motion, hair floating like a blanket left hung to dry on a clothes line, fluttering to the wind🤣😂 Merry Christmas and happy reading, per usual🎄🎀✨🎈

sadly that would've meant cutting the music. 😉 happy christmas (& reading!) to you too.

@JemimaRose9 күн бұрын
same!! i'm genuinely surprised by how many people didn't like it. especially as the first book was such a hit & i don't think iron flame is far off it in terms of similarities.

A lot of (American / coming of age) memoirs are about individuals' close proximity to fame and the delight they take in name-dropping larger-than-life personalities they've encountered, if only briefly. There's a bit of Joan Didion, Eve Babitz-type narration going on there. You can only go so deep ...
@JemimaRose12 күн бұрын
so far, i've definitely found babitz's accounts far more engaging than smith's. i think it's that she brings the reader into each situation, so whenever she name drops we come to understand who that person is over the course of her writing; it feels more inclusionary. as for didion, her writing is so blunt, & seemingly factual, that i trust she is only bringing someone up because they are entirely necessary to her piece!

Jemima applying poetic attention to nature's naked beauty undisturbed by the white noise of techno-distractions (though you do carry around your android on the trip, but that's alrite 🤣) William Wordsworth would have been proud of you🌳

stick a pen through the hole of your record to expand it. I have done it several times and it doesn´t harm your vinyl atleast not for me. I will recommend trying it.

The Slits you say.. funny that last night was listening to a pod cast on the radio Alan Cross was talking about Women Bands that should have got more attention.

I think TBR jars are more fun when you don't have books you're purposefully trying to read. A truly random TBR makes for a more interesting watch IMO. Having ones you try to force into prompts kind of defeats the purpose.
@JemimaRose29 күн бұрын
i just made an exception this month because there are still books i wanted to get to before the end of the year. it was either tbr jar video or regular tbr video that people don’t seem to watch… i do agree with you in general though.
