Rebuild engine to original specs get rid of the hodgepodge that doesn't belong to the original head . Do a valve grind witch are most likely not seating properly because of rust from-the water sitting in the engine. And replace the rings and cheek the bores. Also set Cam at 6 o'clock and crank at 12 o-clock.

@stormchaser300 I was hoping to just get this to run but it's probably a good idea to just have it rebuilt.

Timing marks together. Cam gear 6 crank at 12. TDC of compression stroke. Will fire right up. Compression is Not too low. 100 psi is decent for this engine but I am confident Jason you will get it started and compression will improve they won't all be the same but each within 20 of other is ok.

Hey Jason , I have always brought it up to TDS on the compression stroke and line up two dots cam gear at 6 and crank at 12 o’clock, and if you have vavle cover off make sure intake valve is closing as number one is coming up to compression stroke, good luck you’ ll get it😀😀

Hey Jason , you know what they say spark, compression, and fuel, and it will run, although I did have a Dodge PU one time that jumped a tooth on the timing chain and it wouldn’t start😀😀

You found the reason that old 59 was parked all those years ago. You may have a fairly fresh engine that someone installed the cam 180 degrees out with alignment dot at 12 o'clock instead of 6 o'clock and pointing at the 12 o'clock dot on the crank. Engine may never have been run and the old owner said screw this junk and parked it.

Jesus dude how dense are you get the marks facing each other and drop the distributor it’s simple as hell don’t make it more difficult than it has to be.

@Charger19083 күн бұрын
You want the distributor at top dead center before you drop the distributor not 10 degrees before “0” then you can turn the distributor to set your timing. All engines need is air, fuel and spark and they have to run but you have to set that stuff up before hand.
@CountryBoyGasGarage3 күн бұрын
Yeah I did that first but then decided to try some of the viewers suggestions. ..

I’m just a old carport shade tree mechanic , and I just yesterday did my 327 , lining the dotes as I stated , crank dot at 12 o’clock cam dot at 6 o’clock , in Line top of crank dote 12 o’clock just below cam dot at 6 o’clock distributor rotor pointin at number one , ( even the crank timing mark should line up at 0 or top dead center then . ) again carport shade tree mechanic , but that’s how my Boeing machinist father taught me how to time cam crank , distributor on a Chevy motor . Give it a try Bud . If it don’t work I’ll buy 2 of yer shirts lol

Those cylinders are a bit low , put a little oil in each cylinder before ya put compression tester on that cylinder retest it but if ya line up dots crank at 12 o’clock , cam at six o’clock crank dot in line with cam dot at 6 o’clock distributor pointing at number one she’ll fire

You can build up your compression by putting some ATF or PB blaster in the cylinders. But also I've seen em run at 90. So 🤷 make sure your cam dot is at 6 and crank is at 12.

Put cylinder 1 at top dead center, the camshaft sprocket dot should be at 6, crankshaft dot should be at 12. The dots should be pointing at each other with cylinder 1 on TDC. I’m a GM automotive technician and a GM classic car guy so I’ve had my fair share of working on small block Chevys 🤙

Crank gear should be on the 0 key and dots should face each other. Dot to dot. keep trying, you have plenty of compression.

Happy you got a sponsor. I am not sure you set the timing right ? I think it is, Cam at 6 o'clock and crank at 12 o-clock Most all the old school engines I have done were that way. It's been years so I don't remember that well.
