Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Videography, narration and music. I plan to ride the Velo 6 in 2026. Can’t wait! Enjoy the journey

I loved the video and the music. It has a very nice flow to it. Thanks for sharing it. I hope I can ride that route someday.

I did the Eurovelo 6 (Loire a Velo) in the opposite direction this year (from Nevers to Nantes). It was a very nice experience and it's nice to see it from a different direction. My next plan is a trip from Nantes to Bordeaux. I like your video style, maybe show more of the cities you visit along the way.

It isn’t natural..I was in Europe all last July/August and the chem trailing was continuous…There is a lot of Che trailing all over the world because the DS wish to ruin crops and start forest fires…Like in Canada and USA…

The best thing about your videos is the first person perspective and your humor :-) Apart from that: I was surprised to hear an American speak French intelligibly, but then I saw some of your other content and realized you're not American but Canadian (ha ha ha). That explained it all :-) I wished your videos hat like 20 minutes for each day instead of 2 :-(

Nice content, i am going to cycle EV 6 in 3 weeks ! Same as you did from St.Naz. to Bodensee ! Quick question, is the camera mounted in your chest ? (i dont think its in your helmet right?)

Happy New Years Peter. This is Patrick & Hilary from the greater Washington DC Metro area. We are planning a Eurovelo 6 ride this year 2024 in the Fall. We have a lot of questions about the logistics. The biggest question is whether we should ship our bikes from the USA, rent a bike in Europe, buy a beater bike in Europe? As far as logistics, should we start in Basel or east/west of that location? Do you have any recomendations on airports considering that we want to start near Basel? When you reached the end of your tour how did you return with your bicycle? Did you make your lodging reservations ahead of time or figure it out on the fly? We are leaning towards not making a hard itinerary. Thanks
@pelmers11 ай бұрын
there’s going to be plenty of people going in both directions! Fall would be a great time to take the trip. I did it on a beater bike but a nice bike would let you cover distance more easily. I’m not familiar with bike shipping logistics, but I remember the channel Ryan van Duzer did a packing guide for his trip to Sweden that might give some useful info. For lodging, when not camping, I booked either morning of or day before and didn’t have issues. If going to camp site you can just show up. I also have a Google maps list of all camping spots that I can share (note some might have closed, so double check) I was living in the Netherlands for study so I took trains home. re: airports, Geneva and Zurich are the biggest in Switzerland. Both have super easy train access and you can take full bikes on board to Basel.

Indeed a nice relaxing style. Simple and to the point. I'm planning this trip for early 2024. Is there a complete map set available? I'm thinking about riding east to west as you've brought up the very important point of sun in the eyes right out of the gate each day. Thanks again.

A cool series = beautiful views with storylines + reasonable editing + music with proper vibes, which you got them all. And expect to see more soon!

One of the coolest video I’ve seen about Eurovelo 6 so far, it’s like I was pedaling on the road (oh boy, imagine that if I wore VR glasses)! Thanks for making this video. Definitely subscribed. Just out of curiosity, it seems you have lots of experience with long-distance riding, would you consider to share some of your experience about that to rookies some day? Thanks!

Actually the official website, under “day of the event”, says to run on the right side, to allow those who want to overtake, on the left.

Salut Peter, Gien, very good pronunciation. You didn’t trip on the G and resisted the temptation to pronounce it [dʒ] as in Gym but perfectly as in Regime. Discovering your channel today, I’ve yet to watch episode 1.

Peter, thank you for uploading this amazing trip. I am planning to do this trip, question - can i do it without camping, ie staying in hotels or lodges entire route???
@pelmers Жыл бұрын
yes definitely there's hotels very often along the route, in small French villages you can look for "gites" if there is no hotel (these are bed and breakfasts)

usually between 30 and 40, longest closer to 60 and shortest about 20

This is a dream trip for me and I have a ton of questions and this answered some of them. First, Thank you for making this. I'm loving it. I like the style of the video. It's pretty but also informative and I like hearing what you enjoyed and found challenging. It looks like you covered about 50Km a day. About how many hours did that equate to in the saddle? Thanks! -H
@pelmers Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment! On the bike I averaged about 15-16kph. Of course each day was much longer because of stops but you can guess saddle time from that speed.

Hey Peter. Love the series. I am interested to know what sort of accommodations did you stay at..
@pelmers Жыл бұрын
Hi, it was about a half and half split between camping and hotel/bnb. In the French section most villages and smaller cities have a well-appointed municipal camping site that is very accessible. Maybe too accessible, since they're filled with RVs, but at least they have working showers and spacious sites.
@alpo2smith Жыл бұрын
Peter, thank you so very much for your 4 part series. My questions are: 1. How did you carry your camera that you use for the video; and 2. What type of Camera. I am planning something similar for my vacation in 2024 and so very excited about the possibilities on the journey.
@pelmers Жыл бұрын
great question, I filmed with the insta360 go 2, it's a little camera the size of my thumb. Comes with magnet pendant so it hangs from my chest, so all the video is either that point of view or handheld
@alpo2smith Жыл бұрын
@@pelmers thanks for your reply. I guess that’s another piece of kit that I need for my ride. Your narration was great. Thank you again

I like the vids, but IMO, some live commentaries would be welcome, rather than voice over. At least, every now and then. Makes me feel like I'm there, rather than just seeing a recap.
@pelmers Жыл бұрын
thanks for the feedback! Maybe this comes from the tension between making videos for myself vs. making them for others -- when I am the viewer then I don't need much live commentary because just seeing the video itself is enough to put me back in the action. Appreciate the comment and that it's good to keep in mind the perspective of someone else!
@mistreku Жыл бұрын
I know what you did last summer.. Feedback wise, I personally would love to see some more detailed footage of the historical bits, a closer look with maybe, if it's not too much trouble, some info (when built, by whom etc). But I understand that might be a lot of extra work for just a few more viewers.
@davidcollier6520 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting this. Like part 3 it looks really great but again some scary/unpleasant stretches on roads which is incongruous with everything else around. It would be great if they could sort those weak links out. I love your commentary, you are very articulate and remind me of Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks, especially the round ups. I know little about US accents but I think he was from the north and you have mentioned Houston in you youtubes - I'm probably useless at detecting accents🤷♂! Talking of Houston, you inferred the cycle infrastructure there is not great and ditto here ... UK also has a long, long way to go!
@pelmers Жыл бұрын
thanks! re: accents, I think in the U.S. it's very difficult to guess where someone is unless they have one of a tiny number of distinctive accents (e.g. ask a Wisconsinite to say "bag"). Indeed, you might not know they're from the U.S at all, maybe they're from Canada

It's a great follow on from part 2 and well done for taking on the advice about showing the route. I use relive which is very easy but I'll definitely check out GPX Replay software. It's great footage to work out to and explore future bike riding opportunities so thank you.

thanks! re: details, for part 3 and 4 I begin showing a map. Here, the route taken follows exactly the link posted in the video description. re: camping, I have a google maps list of all the potential campsites in the French part of the route: goo.gl/maps/nCPoH5fVWy28YDrA6. Over the trip some nights were in hotel and some were in the tent.

I bought it from a used bike shop in the Netherlands, though I can't even find this specific version of Gazelle Xanta anywhere online so it must be pretty old. Very heavy and it has high resistance in the drivetrain but that's just more fitness for me.
