It's a torment for the international audience to listen to a podcast between a scottish and an australian, but the theme of Calibration is always fascinating

Thanks to CNLohr for providing these many cool insights about his work, and also for providing a good deal of heavy lifting on the interview - Chris you really need to stop yapping non-stop and interrupting guests with half assed jokes and observations in an attempt to see what sticks. See the episode with one of the guys from Zephyr; not two minutes would pass before Chris would interrupt with some stupid joke throwing the guest off thread with no added benefit. You really gotta learn how to properly LISTEN and LEARN from your guests and not just play the eternal protagonist. JC

Open Circuits looks like a great book. It is a little bit expensive for who is outside of the dolar region but there is a lot of work in making the book i think. I am majoring in electrical electronics engineering and one day maybe i could make a book like yours, who knows!😅

Been a while since I listened to this podcast. I listened to every single episode for years. Couldn't figure out why I stopped... until the 19:22 mark. Then I remembered Chris's half-baked political comments. Shame. Fun while it lasted.

can you do a podcast where you discuss your about career, your life at companies, dos and donts in early stages of life and how does it affects you later, your past experiences, etc. I know you both have discussed similar topics here and there in many podcasts. Thanks

In the UK to register a company is only £50 via the website or £71 if you want to do it on paper. Then £13 per YEAR!! 10* this in France with most other EU countries like Greece, Spain & Germany 3000+ euros. In all you need to have insurance & bank accounts with cash in them.

wasn't expecting two of my worlds to collide like this but yeah, in the classic Tetris scene where we play the NES version, a CRT is an absolute must. at high levels of play your inputs often need to be accurate to one or two frames (1 frame being 1/60 sec ~17ms) so any extra latency can easily be a limiting factor. I play on a fairly compact Panasonic 13" PVM (released ~'96).

Absolutely hate using Altium, but I'm glad it wasn't Autodesk. They have a track record of raising prices and putting out worse, buggy tools. I think it's so left field for Renesas to buy them that I don't think we'll see a huge effect on things. Renesas might make chips for everything but the hobbyist is so unlikely to use them that I don't think it'll make a difference, if anything put them on a slightly more level playing field to compete with TI/ST/NRF

Was a Autotrax user and moved to Client for Windows. Loved the products so unvested in Altium in 2015 for $4.50 and now its worth $65+ Thanks Altium!

Hard time imagining phosphor lag reaching the many milliseconds that are inherent in the lcd displays. On the order of half a frametime to maybe 2-3 frametimes depending on a bunch of factors.

I've used Renesas RA2 for a low power design. Absolutely amazing HAL. STMicro should be ashamed.

Yeah done a couple of designs with ra4 and 6, the RA Hal is definitely nice
@MatthiasWelwarsky5 ай бұрын
Why would they decrease the prices? Renesas have paid coin, lots of it. Altium now has to earn that coin back. Period. This coin has to come from somewhere. No company has ever reduced prices on their products after they were acquired.
@BassheadMusicConnoisseur5 ай бұрын
So, when they decrease their prices, they may get new customers who are able to buy it. Yes, it will be still loss for a while, but that it is an investment. You never know when they will change their services or service scheme. Which features would be expensive and which features will be included in the base package. So that way, different features will attract different type of people with various skill sets - a beginner wouldn't use a tool for GHz circuits.

You don't have to build a watch, you can start with the PineTime and customize the firmware for your kid with different watch faces or whatever. Mine is not super reliable but I can't tell if thats software or hardware. They are cheap, so I'm not too bothered -- and i wouldnt be too bothered if a kid broke theirs..

So the IP reuse question is actually different between your locales -- commonwealth countries the IP is typically owned by a consultant when work is done in contract so it's unambiguously okay to reuse code, unless there's a specific agreement preventing it. In the USA it's the opposite!

ya could get onto the internet from BBSs...before it was commercial..and dial up days usually always had the modem handshake sound,(unless you turned it off..default was on, on most modems) everything from my 2400bps that id rack up huge ass phone bills with calling long distance to BBSs ..all the way through to 56k had the sound.....iirc the ADSL modems never had a speaker for the handshake sound... but if you hooked it up without the filter, you could hear the handshake on the phone handset... LK-99 as it is has a low voltage and current limit...at room temp... its in mA and mV range.. BUT... if you slightly cool it... the range increases.. (look at the graphs in the paper...it shows it all!) as ive said on other vids about LK-99...the real breakthrough comes from the material science.. we now know we can "shrink" the lattice with a chemical process not needing extremely low temps and extremely high pressures...different crystal structures and elements used to make them may help increase the voltage and current limitations LK-99 currently has ...Chris..heres a stupid idea for ya.... solar roadways! Great enthusiasm, and excellent communicator, big fan of CNLohr! BTW, aside from the low-cost 10cent parts from LCSC, any thoughts on the $5 RP2040 used on the Pi Pico? It has 8 PIO state machines, which seems to be unique, or at least not on the ESP32-C3 (risc-v)! Any plans to cover FPGAs?
