wasn't expecting two of my worlds to collide like this but yeah, in the classic Tetris scene where we play the NES version, a CRT is an absolute must. at high levels of play your inputs often need to be accurate to one or two frames (1 frame being 1/60 sec ~17ms) so any extra latency can easily be a limiting factor. I play on a fairly compact Panasonic 13" PVM (released ~'96).

Was a Autotrax user and moved to Client for Windows. Loved the products so unvested in Altium in 2015 for $4.50 and now its worth $65+ Thanks Altium!

I've used Renesas RA2 for a low power design. Absolutely amazing HAL. STMicro should be ashamed.

Yeah done a couple of designs with ra4 and 6, the RA Hal is definitely nice

Hard time imagining phosphor lag reaching the many milliseconds that are inherent in the lcd displays. On the order of half a frametime to maybe 2-3 frametimes depending on a bunch of factors.

Absolutely hate using Altium, but I'm glad it wasn't Autodesk. They have a track record of raising prices and putting out worse, buggy tools. I think it's so left field for Renesas to buy them that I don't think we'll see a huge effect on things. Renesas might make chips for everything but the hobbyist is so unlikely to use them that I don't think it'll make a difference, if anything put them on a slightly more level playing field to compete with TI/ST/NRF

Why would they decrease the prices? Renesas have paid coin, lots of it. Altium now has to earn that coin back. Period. This coin has to come from somewhere. No company has ever reduced prices on their products after they were acquired.

So, when they decrease their prices, they may get new customers who are able to buy it. Yes, it will be still loss for a while, but that it is an investment. You never know when they will change their services or service scheme. Which features would be expensive and which features will be included in the base package. So that way, different features will attract different type of people with various skill sets - a beginner wouldn't use a tool for GHz circuits.
