I have a Hansee 388 and noticed that the plastic lip seal/ ring that you slide off the shaft is cracked and I am concerned the bottom bearing is also damaged. Do you happen to have the part number for both so I can order and have them ready when I take out of the water next month to fix? Thanks

I soo new Hanse 388 with Jefa rudder and stearing. They have also connected common ground to the rudder in the factory. Why, is that OK?

Hello. Hanse "grounding wire" is not to ground, but to a external anode. You can always use an anode for the rudder stock, but it must only be connected to the stock/tiller lever/quadrant. Br Thor

P240 grid paper to sand the rudder post. Is that not to rough for bearing seat?

Hello. In normal situations yes, but this rudder stock had a lot of dirt so it was first sanded with a 240 and than a 400 grit. Our normal recommendations is to use sandpaper grit 400+ and just a light pass over the rudder stock. Best regards Thor

Can this be done on moored vessels? Or will the boat sink?

Hi. Do you mean taking the rudder out? That depends if there is a rudder tube going over the waterline. But I would not recommend doing the service on the boat while it is in the water. Best regards Thor

Contrary to Jefa's own recommendation, this rudder post seems to be electrically bonded (green-yellow wire).

Hi Jacopo. You are correct. But as we are not the owner of the boat we can't just remove the wire without permission. We did recommend that the wire should be removed, or at least removed from the tiller lever connected on the stock to the owner. You can read all about our recommendation and how to prevent electrolysis here: jefa.dk/electrolysis/ Br Thor

Hi! Synthetic grease (we use Castrol Synplex 2, but any winch grease will do the job).

@@jefamarineas1734 assume its not appropriate/ necessary to add grease to the inside of the bearing (in contact with the stainless shaft)?
