I am trying to recall the order in which I ended up fixing things. The main thing I did was go over the whole ignition system, points, plugs, wires condenser but I also had water in my fuel. I siphoned some fuel out the tank into a glass jar to confirm Turned out my fuel lines were original to the boat and my fuel fill lines were in poor shape allowing water to get in. Hope this helps

You have a electric choke on that carb. Turn the key to the on position an the choke should heat up and open a coil that sets the choke. Let us know how it's going, cheers!

You could check the push rod between thermostat lever and choke plate-trinagle - and aswell the other one -conecting the vacuum plunger and the triangle. These rods have small tabs that are securing, that the rod can´t fall of during operation. (to disconect, you have to turn them into a position, where the tab matches the notch in the hole of tringel-plate. There are chances, that you mount the rods in a way, that the tab can slip into the notch of the plate (if the whole system is put into a certain position). Then the choke plate will be stuck and can´t shut to the specified position. When wiggeling around you will free up the tab from the notch and evrything will be working as supposed. I´ve had this issue and it was hard to find. Check your video at 2:45 and 3:35 - Not shure, but it could be, that you´ve got this problem. if so, trie to turn araund the rod - up side down and/or inside out (you can aswell stick the rod from the backside through the triangle plate. Search for a combination, where tab and notch are clearly positioned in different directions. By the way: make shure; that you adjust the gap of your choke plate by the correct way. It looks, that your carb has a vacuum device. In this case you will adjust the gap by bending the connecting rod to the wright length, while the plunger is fully seated (like it is, when motor is runing). You will find viseos about that. After you have adjusted the gap, you turn the thermostat clockwise until the intermediate rod is pushing the choke plate to it´s defined position. The further you turn the thermostat - the later the thermostat coil will open the choke plate (the mixture will stay richer). Hope this will help you - would be great to share any results or thoughts
@barry.anderberg2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure this is normal. The plate is "stuck" open because of the idle speed screw sitting on the idle cam. As soon as you tap the throttle it will shut.

@@MrAndrewdouv by chance does it happen after some wavy days, like rolling choppy rides, bow up and down a lot ? If so that’s a common sign of water in the fuel. It separates it’ll seem good and good shake of the tank and it’ll suck more water up and then when it sprays the water in the cylinders it bogs and picks back up when more fuels sprayed back in! Last summer I had to clean my water separator 5-6 times! The O-Ring on my gas filler cap went bad!

Yes, I replaced the points and condenser and that fixed it for me, see my other videos. Also I noticed one of my spark plug wires was backing itself off making a weak connection on the distributor. I fixed that by sticking a screwdriver into the plug wire boot and widening the metal clip that snaps into the distributor. Hope this helps. @@MrAndrewdouv I have a similar issue, 140hp 2 stroke Johnson, runs good on rabbit ears, lower the boat in water and will not start, pull the boat back out, hook up rabbit ears and fires right up. The local shop is stumped. Any ideas? Had the same issue with a 200. Thank you!
@MrAndrewdouv3 жыл бұрын
@@ceisarsrepair7958 a number of things could cause that. I had the same symptom on a OMC 2.3l and it turned out I had water in my gas tank. I found it by siphoning a sample into a clear glass jar. Could also be weak spark, weak compression or fuel issue so you've gotta go at this methodically. If it's not bad gas use an adjustable spark tester and see if you've got strong blue spark jumping a 1/2" gap. Compression is quick and easy to test as well. If it's not either of those you can do a fuel pump pressure test. Make sure your tank vent is working correctly and your fuel lines are not damaged

The coil is shorting to ground intermittently. This will cause a loss of power due to the fuel air mixture not burning. The spark you see when testing, is very strong, try a new coil. Also make sure all four coils are tight.

@MrAndrewdouv6 жыл бұрын
Mason Dyer first confirm spark is getting to each plug. If spark is getting there, check compression on each cylinder. While you're doing these tests have your battery on the charger. If has spark and compression but still won't start on fresh fuel you may need to rebuild carbs. First though I would load drop test voltage on battery at the starter solenoid. This will confirm your battery is putting out enough juice. Also confirm your choke plates are closing fully and your fuel line bulb is firm.
