UTAustin Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is running a MOOC starting 08 May 23 on this very topic. I also know that they've taught courses to build up Journalist skills and focus in ways that dovetail with this Solutions approach. I'm so glad I found this link and greatly enjoyed the presentation.

Yes, perhaps we can move beyond the 50-year stranglehold of the Donahue, Rivera, Springer model of Journalism that twisted it into a narcissistic career where the reporter is the star and value of the story. It also allows for Journalism to more closely model its claim of being the Fourth Estate. I was a journalist in the mid70s and went independent rather than joining the crushing overflow of Donahuenists in the colleges and more. Service is the model I've used with my writing, my family, and my dedication to my Nation. I'm glad to hear this being emphasized.

This is a hugely important effort and I am grateful to you for sharing this vital tool to help society. It would be terrific if your organization could compile a directory of news organizations that employ solutions journalism and perhaps create a news app that features their stories so people have a choice to subscribe to a more complete presentation of news, one that isn't designed to keep people fearful and angry but rather to help inform and improve society. Thank you!

Thanks for these insights - and the rebroadcast. I'm looking for any substantive quantitative or qualitative research on how solutions journalism instills trust in the public and helps to restore civility in the public sphere. We feel in our guts that this is the case. But where is the proof? Thank you so much!

It is unconstitutional to deprive citizens of their liberty or their property without due process. That means due process before any confiscation of their property, not after. It is a scary thought that so many government agents either dont understand this fundamental legal principle, or just dont give a shit. Tyranny is at our door.

1:33 Journalism is about telling the truth, not "helping us to see ways to make things better". Your job is to report the truth about what's happening, not to tell your opinion on how to fix it. That's the problem in today's media: The big media companies are dying and loosing profit to indy media/internet news, so they are forced to become more opinionated and less honest to keep their viewer/reader base.
