What year is your mini? Mines a 1998 Rover spi japanese import and it looked pretty much like that before it went into a panel beater! Except as with japanese rover minis mine has air-conditioning and its retro fitted with austin cooper badges and older style mirrors located towards the headlights! I say just restore it to how it came out of the factory(engine and body rebuild)! But with cooper sport or john cooper works spec maybe?

There is a factory lifting tool, and seems to be pretty common out there these days. In the '70's we borrowed the dealers lifting tool, and made a copy of it. It tilts the engine assembly so it lifts out easy, and then repositions to lift the engine off the gearbox.

The A Series engine responses well to head and cam. A stage 3 head, and Swiftune SW5 cam would be a great move. Strong back the centre main bearing, and balance the lightened flywheel and crank. If budget allows, a close ratio gear set, and LSD. Smiles per Mile.

Hey Laura, Firstly, definitely buying the appropriate lifting tool will ensure you limit the chances of it failing, slipping or damaging the engine (check my videos for tools from minisport). A mild camshaft is always a good mod along with oversized pistons, 040” would be suffice as a starting point. Moving onto head work is also a good option to let it breathe better, but as you add modifications, there will always be restrictions from such things as exhaust system, intake, fueling, ignition timing etc. always best to upgrade parts as you go to get the most out of it. But a cam shaft and pistons would be a great and easy start, plus it’ll give you a full breakdown of the engine internals and what condition they’re in. Hope this helps. Tomo

Great video Laura and some great advice there on how to remove a engine. I have a Mini similar age to yours but it’s not a copper. I’ve gone with some mods like twin exhaust and some alloy wheels that sit just proud of the standard arches. I’ve also fitted low back bucket seats and 4 spot lights

Wow, how long have you been a ‘mechanic’ , very impressed, all great stuff. I highly recommend the Minispares subframe - MS45D or MS45LATE (currently out of stock). Half the price of genuine and that rust will just come back on that old one (time and money wasted), trust me, been there done that. Also join the ‘the mini forum’, £5. tell mini spares and they’ll give you 7.5% discount on everything (except sales items) - I’m not affiliated, just love minis (it’s a problem 🤣

Hi, great vlog. FYI the sills are bead welded in the factory (so no spot welds as such), so is the roof and the seams on the four corners of the car. The bead weld is a semi continuous weld and a right pain. Also MIG stands for metal inert gas, TIG is tungsten inert gas. Any inert gas will work, some are better than others. Gonna watch your other vlogs now. 👍

in Romania the washer fluid for sure is not part of the servicing
@yorkiemike13 күн бұрын
In England a car will fail it's MOT (yearly inspection) if you don't have any washer fluid. So it is worth checking regularly and topping up in a service.
@georgesbv113 күн бұрын
@@yorkiemike in Romania, in theory, you may fail the periodic test inspection due to missing or expired fire extinguisher, sanitary kit or busted lightbulbs. Usually you solve the bulbs on the spot, or make weird tyres invisible
@yorkiemike13 күн бұрын
@@georgesbv1 In England bulbs/tyres will also cause you to fail your MOT, and will be marked as so. You do however get a free retest within ten days, so if you opt to put those things right you can have a retest straight away.

Good work, would have removed the bootlid first to give you better access inside the boot. Personally, i wouldnt bother with shotblast and powdercoat, just wire wheel it back to bare metal, some rust treatment and a few coats of black smooth hammerite does the same job and is cheaper. Would recommend using uprated orange polybushes though on your mounts when you rebuild it, id also do the same to to the radius arms, get them repinned and replace all the moving parts.
