Ok I have a question why did my saw blade broke when I am not doing anything with it I am just holding the saw and the blade was in and suddenly snapped in half and my blades are not cheap blades and it suddenly just snapped in half

Try the Swiss blades sold at Otto Frei Swiss Jewelers Saw Blades Part # 149.410G. I have students who lay the saw down with the metal still on the blade, and they haven't broken. OttoFrei.com in CA.

I can't thank you enough for this, Janet. There are many videos out there with most of the same basics, but you went the extra mile and showed some very small, mostly overlooked nuances of the saws, blades, and techniques that nobody else has explained.

What was on the brush that u wiped on the jewelry, flux?
@JanetAlexanderJewelry
@JanetAlexanderJewelry 6 ай бұрын
It's just a cheap craft brush. I mix Handy Flux with My-T-Flux. Handy Flux gives a temperature reading, when it goes clear, the metal is up to temperature. The My-T-Flux is a self pickling and cleans the metal for a more successful soldering experience

@JanetAlexanderJewelry

Sorry for the late response, for some reason KZbin didn't notify me. All of the small propane canisters will work. If wanting to connect to a larger tank, like one used for grills, it needs a regulator.

I bought one of those 5 years ago. I found the quality to be quite poor. The flame adjustment ring was very loose and would not stay set. The nozzles constantly clogged. Pretty much a waste of money for me. Go ahead and get a Smith's Little Torch. Don't be afraid of the oxygen!
@JanetAlexanderJewelry

The smith little torch is great for soldering small things, like re-tipping prongs, chain repairs, making granulation, and general gold soldering. For silver soldering, it will cause fire scale and doesn't heat up large pieces evenly.

I just watched some of it, he is a very pessimistic person toward the arts. Everyone is creative, in their own passion. He sounds like one of the promoters of removing art from schools, which has become so sad to see. Creative people include actors, video game animators, film animators, playwrights, landscape architects, building architects, musicians, any entertainer, painters, sculptors, furniture designers, car designers, and so on. Not one manufactured item in this world wasn't created by a creative person. Many have become successful in their art. It's just that a lot of artists are not trained in business and promotion. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas. At that time they didn't require art majors to take accounting and business classes. I wish I had. Many people have a hard time selling, which is why there are specific people who excel at it. It takes a certain personality to sell art or that matter anything that doesn't pertain to survival.

@@JanetAlexanderJewelry I see your viewe of the definition as degrading the word. If everyone is creative, the word is waste of time. It's like saying "All humans are breathers" - a waste of time sentence. I agree with the part about not being able to make cash, bcz we didn't know enough about it, but that goes to every personally owned job. And a stroll around most curent art galleries prove, that it has very little to do with the quality of the art, who gets to be attempted monitized. When most people can do something, it's nothing special, and that's the case with most modern art.

I found this video while searching for a solution to sky problem: I primed a new crucible with borax, which looked great all perfectly glazed. (I live in a very humid area) so...when I went to melt gold, I noticed the glaze was sticky so I heated up the crucible to re-glaze the glaze. it looked good again. well, then I started to melt a small amount of gold but the glaze melted faster than the gold and the gold got all gummed up and stuck inside the glaze! I realized I had too much borax in my original glaze application, plus my torch wasn't hot enough. so for those of you who are beginners, beware of priming your new crucible with too much borax to glaze it. then make sure your torch is hot enough to melt gold. if you get metal trapped in glaze, wait till it cools, then melt the glaze with water and your metal will be released!

The connection on the torch's hose only allows it to connect to these small bottles. The connection is the regulator and is made to regulate the propane in the small bottles. So, you can't use the mapp gas cylendar.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but if I tighten the hose attachment to the torch tight enough to not get any gas leaks I no longer get any swivel on the torch. I double checked and am connecting the correct end, but when I still had swivel movement I tested and had a gas leak, then tightened and no longer had any swivel. Any ideas why this might be?

Maybe because they are "easy" to ruin by pressure, and hard to (unless someone knows a trick, to not needing to take it apart and resolderit) repair. I own an oldcross, that someone must have bitten into, with engravings, that has 2 or 3 dents, that I'm not eager to start to try to repair - can't find anything anywhere about how to.

Yes and no. .. the borax is used to coat the crucible so that there is a glass like coating over the ceramic material. It never needs relocating. Then, also it is used for cleaning oxides off the molten metal. If you are melting used metal, or tarnished metal there will be reddish floating stuff over the metal when it's completely melted. Sometimes just stirring it with a carbon stick will cleaned/push it to the crucible sides. But sometimes you have to put a pinch of borax on the metal while stirring it, to remove the oxides. Over time the borax becomes too thick and then needs scraping out while the crucible is hot..
@chrismalcomson7640
@chrismalcomson7640 3 жыл бұрын
I use borax to help the metal flow. A little pinch of borax helps the metal melt. Before casting I use an old needle file to drag any slag to the back of the crucible so it doesn't interfere with the flow..
@seanfoltz7645
@seanfoltz7645 5 жыл бұрын
OK, thumbs up as you explained the why behind the borax treatment. Follow up question since you seem to know your stuff - do you have to retreat the crucible periodically?
@JanetAlexanderJewelry
@JanetAlexanderJewelry 3 жыл бұрын
At times you will need to heat the crucible up making the borax fluid and scrape out the excess. Other than that there is no reason to retreat it. Sometimes, if the metal is really dirty you have to add some borax over the metal to get it to melt more easily.
