The connection on the torch's hose only allows it to connect to these small bottles. The connection is the regulator and is made to regulate the propane in the small bottles. So, you can't use the mapp gas cylendar.

Janet, thanks so much for that video. I recently got an EZ torch and got very vague, unclear instructions with it. Specifically, the instructions I got directed me to connect the swivel end of the hose to the propane canister, not to the torch head! Also, I did not get a valve...the directions say to just connect the hose to the canister, It says the valve is only for the refillable propane canister. I had a lot of trouble getting the torch lit, and after using it only three times to solder some small projects, the tank was empty the next time I went to use it, about 2 days later. Now I'm wondering if the whole canister just leaked out into my workshop over those 2 days! Luckily, I don't smoke! Thanks again for this video!

This torch does have a small problem in that the knob that adjusts the air flow to the flame tends to move while moving the torch with the flame pointing downward and can make the flame change. I just work around it and have had no substantial problems. I like using the torch for classes where I have to travel and need a hot compact torch. Its compact and low cost. Some people don't want to spend the extra money on a higher quality torch but want the heat of one. The best torch, if you are willing to invest more money is a Smith Acetylene and Air torch. I've had one since 1974 and love it. It comes with several tips and is good for casting small items for soldering. If I am soldering a very large item, tea pot, I have a Y valve added in line and use two torches off of one tank.

Great idea Kevin! Thanks for sharing!

Some Teflon tape on the thread will provide enough friction to prevent the knob from moving by itself. I wouldn't put an o-ring there - this part of the torch can get pretty hot.

Janet, where can I find an adaptor for the orca torch? Mine came without the valve and adaptor
@JanetAlexanderJewelry Жыл бұрын
I looked on line, and it looks like you have to purchase the kit for the adapter, which is the regulator. You might try calling Rio Grande. Sorry for the late response. KZbin didn't notify me of these comments. I will start checking more often.
@ArchieVenezuela2 жыл бұрын
Hi, which brand of propane canister can be used with this torch? Thanks in advance
@JanetAlexanderJewelry Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response, for some reason KZbin didn't notify me. All of the small propane canisters will work. If wanting to connect to a larger tank, like one used for grills, it needs a regulator.
@JanetAlexanderJewelry9 жыл бұрын
Agnes, you need the valve! It turns the gas on or off to the torch head and it regulates the pressure. Go back to your supplier! Additionally, at the end of the day, disconnect the torch from the tank. This makes sure there is no leaking.

First; thank you for this video. Question (please); I just bought an orca ez torch and yes I got stung with all the parts separately...now, after I hooked it all up and there was a 3-4 foot flame out of the end of the hand piece. I don't think it is supposed to do that right? I noticed the air valve was quite open but still...would it do that? I took the torch outside and tried to mess with it and might give it another try tomorrow - outside of course. I am going to watch your video a few more times to make sure I am doing all this correctly but I was just shocked when it did that.
@JanetAlexanderJewelry9 жыл бұрын
The flame is adjusted by opening the air nut near the tip of torch. The more air supplied to the flame the sharper the flame becomes. Watch the above film at 4:30 minutes into the video. This is where I adjust the flame. If you have that completely open, try turning down the valve at the tank. It only needs to be open a crack and only open the black knob on the torch handle just a little bit.
@trishseal9 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I think I might have it figured out with your tips. I had the air valve wide open, I also had the tank valve wide open. Much appreciated. I was pretty scared when it acted like a flame thrower lol. :)

Besides the price what would you say the difference between the EZ Torch and the Bernzomatic Propane torch with extension hose?
@shoptwoblooms8 жыл бұрын
I'm considering this torch as I just use a butane one right now. When you are adjusting the flame and moving the dials do your fingers get really hot? When you first turned it on it looked like the flame was really big?
@JanetAlexanderJewelry8 жыл бұрын
When you first turn it on, you adjust the gas flame to about 3 -4' and then adjust the air. The torch adjustment isn't hot. After you have used it for a while it becomes hot.
@shoptwoblooms8 жыл бұрын
Thank you I've used my torch a few times. The place where I got it from said it was okay to leave the hose connected to the disposable propane if I was using it regularly. They said I should disconnect if not using for awhile like a month. So you take your off every day and check for leaks every time you use it?
@JanetAlexanderJewelry8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do at the end of the day. Lets say there is a small leak, you come in and now you have no gas. Also, I tend to be very safety conscious. My home is more important to me and so I disconnect.

There was a question on Google+ asking if you can work with 100% propane. No. Air or oxygen must be added to the mixture to create a hotter flame. This torch brings in air just below the tip and mixes it with the gas creating a hotter flame. This is the way an Acetylene air torch works as well. This torch also can be bought to work on propane. You must order it with the correct fitting for propane. The manufactures make different fittings so that they only fit on one type of gas.
