Great video. Did you plane the 2x4s at all? Thanks!

Love this table but Why not make the top from 2x4s? Stiffer and still not pricy. Saving this for when mt shop is finished being built.

yours is the second video using Baltic Birch plywood for a simple charging station. Yall must have more money than you need using that expensive plywood for shop shelves.

I wonder if you could reinforce a box joint with a dowel run in the z axis through all the "fingers" with a light friction fit (one you can push in by hand, but not loose.) Another question would be if fluted dowels (leaving a little room for glue/compression,) would make any difference to any of the dowel enforced joints. These may not change any outcomes by much, but they would be interesting to see if any difference does show up.

Time savings with ease of setup and easy repeatability is what saves you. Yes you can do it with a router but you need to spend a lot of time setting up a jig to do it properly. Time is a commodity we don’t get back. You can waste your time setting up your router. I’d rather save that time enjoying life by getting the project done way faster with comparable strength with a domino. Sorry your view doesn’t work for everyone.

By coincidence i built something different in dimensions but similar in joinery over Christmas. Forgive me if i missed this, but are you worried the hardware store lumber will warp on you? I am. I did use 2 X 8s, splitting them long ways and milling them square, as you recommended in a different video, and i varethaned everything to seal it from west coast humidity. But i worry that the wood will twist come Spring. BTW i liked your drawers idea. I may use that one day. It looks pretty straightforward

Because you can make the 1000th Video About that to Jump on the „do you Need a Domino“ Train. There is no comparison to that Tool - period. If you can afford - Buy it! If Not, dont do it! But from germany (where the Domino is from in case you dont know ) it is funny how many US KZbinr are doing such Videos just for Views. And by the way, learn what that Tool can do. Connect 2 by 4’s are Not close the Main task where it shines anything away in comparison

I’d vote for more content like this. Leave the beginner stuff to the millions of channels out there to teach how to make nightstands out of 2x4s. I’d also advocate for no more brass details on walnut. Those should go the way of river tables.

Seriously appreciate the thought and effort that went into making this an affordable and approachable workbench. I remember when I was new to woodworking and thought I HAD to make a solid wood bench top, such a needless use of money and time. And I used crappy lumber so mine twisted like a piece of licorice. To this day I use plywood/mdf with about 2 inches of wood around the edge for everything I make from fine furniture to abused workbenches.

One great benefit of an under bench cabinet is weight. Weight is critical for overall stability. Its no fun when your bench starts to tip while planing or sawing. So I’m told😂

This is an interesting subject and of all the videos have watched on the topic I think this is one the best. Go Math and metrics! Production shop sure, for a regular hobby person I simply think your money goes so much further on other things. IMO has to be a way to make a solid router jig that replicates the domino's mortise cutting, obviously the jig would need accommodate the 'floating' side what the Festool does....or maybe just loosen clamp a bit and jiggle the thing? haha..... Sure takes a bit more time with a router but if expediency and cranking things out shortest amount of time is what you want...eh, don't be so impatient. However, 50 minutes running at what 1.5 minutes...can crank out a lot of cuts in that time. Are you making 100 chairs or 1 chair, right? The second part is the tennon or domino -- how about simply milling the actual domino stock, that can't be terribly difficult to batch out once get it set to mill out entire strips of these things, right? Spend a couple hours ripping through the router table can have piles of the things. The glue grooves of the dominoes -- is just a groove on sided the part. I dunno, am not an engineer but Has to be a way!! :-) I could be wrong.... but I also believe these Festools have to start showing up on the second-hand market sooner than later. And overall....people who say, 'Oh sure I could do that if I only had those tools'. Well, of course you might be able to, but, the real challenge is to find a way to solve that problem. Can't afford the tool? Ok, outside of giving up and being a crummy commenter, what can you do with the tools you do have?
