Hi Sharon, you are going to love using the VC silks! 🙂 Let me look up the item number of the bobbin case I’ve used and I will post it in this reply in a few minutes. When you first put the bobbins in the bobbin case, they are a little snug, just push them down in and they will fit. At first, I didn’t think they quite fit, but after giving them a push into the space, the foam adapted and they fit well. Here’s the link to the bobbin case I’ve used for the VC silks: tinyurl.com/2ncsftbj

When the Un-stitcher first came out it was always out of stock at FQS. I took an old stitching needle and stuck it in a little cylinder of modeling clay that I then baked at a really low temperature in my oven. Hey presto, a homemade un-stitcher. I figured it was also a great way to make do with something I would normally throw out, thereby giving it a second life. A small square of modeling clay at your local craft store is only a few dollars and will make enough little cylinders to push old needles into that you can have an un-stitcher in every project bag you own for pennies apiece.

No idea why it took me so long to get to this video. It was wonderful. I liked your ideas for shelving. I have some old plastic shelves that are well past their expiry date and since they hold many book, patterns, and supplies, I'm super careful when removing or replacing an item. My creative space is much smaller (small house and no basement) but I've still managed to have that closet full of fabric when I need to sew something plus and assortment of sewing machines to use depending upon the project. My quilting skills are pretty basic. I saw a design at the end called Magic Cubes that looks just perfect for a quilt that I promised a friend for her new baby. She wants blue, green and white; using only three colors is a challenge to find the right pattern especially since I love a zillion colors. With Magic Cubes--assuming it's within my beginner skill range--a range of blues and greens would work out well. I also need to get on this project because the baby is now 5 months old. Oh, well, it can be made a bigger size which would be useful in the long run.
@karencombsstudio
@karencombsstudio 12 күн бұрын
@@sandyp2485 Hi Sandy, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note! 🙂 Magic Cubes is made from half-square triangles and square in a square (square surrounded by half-square triangles). I would say the skill level is “confident” beginner who is familiar with those shapes. It’s pretty large, so it may be difficult to size down for a baby quilt, but perhaps a corner of it would work. Thanks again for your note!

I have the Loara Standish sampler as a kit with silk floss which I purchased from The Examplerary shop on Etsy. I hadn't thought of getting a set of floss from Vicki Clayton but I will be doing a comparison of what came with the kit to the Vicki Clayton set. I like the fabric it came with so I doubt it will get changed out. The samplers that come from The Examplerary shop do have extensive instructions but they are worth having. I've learned a few new tricks just from reading through them. One that has come in handy even before starting a different sampler (Margaret Hawden) is if a single thread cross stitch doesn't provide sufficient coverage, then add an extra cross on the top leg. For me this has helped work through the mystery of one thread or two DMC or other cotton floss on 36 count where one thread is too sparse looking but two threads is too heavy for coverage but the extra leg is just right. On 40 count, one thread is usually enough especially if it's Soie d'alger silk because it seems to fluff up enough for just right coverage.

Hi Mary, thanks so much for your sweet comment and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I really like using the Vikki Clayton silks - they have a good price point, stitches beautifully, does not "fuzz", The longer fibers make it very long wearing and has a beautiful sheen. Lately, that is my "go-to" silk when I'm kitting a project. I've also used 100.3 quite a bit and enjoy using that as well. I've used others and enjoy them, but the ones I've listed above seem (for now) to be my favorites. Excellent question, thank you for posting it. :) .
