I am pretty sensitive to the slight hiss (or whatever electric noise that is) that many bluetooth headphones have. I prefer to have the wired versions generally. These look good though ngl.

Not being able to control this with my phone is the biggest drawback. The R7 is android. My Samsung phone is android. And it won't connect. The blue tooth can be pushed to connect. It even said it was connected, but NO! The R7 doesn't even show up in the list of devices to connect manually. This... brick, is only one of two audio devices I regret buying. I mean, I paid around $700. USD for this thing. When I contacted FiiO about this, they said "maybe in a future update". Future 0:56 update?? Maybe?? A total deal breaker. Your money is better spent on Wiim or Blusound or EverSolo or ANYTHING besides a half finnished product. FiiO totally dropped the ball. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Thanks for the great video. I found this because the the leather loop on the elastic band (the loop that holds the elastic to the little rotating t-post) on my Nighthawks tore. I contacted AQ to see if they still offered repair or a replacement band, but they do not. I've never repaired headphones, and I'm trying to figure out how to approach this. The leather on the loop is pretty torn up and sewing it back together won't work. My hunch is that it will need to be reinforced with some material but I'm also trying to figure out if there are any other, better options. It doesn't look like you had this exact problem, but I'm curious how you would fix something like this.

When the red is connected to a high power USB port (often with a battery symbol next to it) it really shines and delivers notably better sound than from a phone. This little red devil really take all the power it can get from the USB port and transforms it into pure sound quality.

I’m curious if these would be okay for the gym, specifically lifting no cardio. I’m guessing not with the foam pads?

You don't have to apologize for the V3. 😉 My two ZA3 will arrive on Saturday, I look forward to a comparison. My system with which I am currently hearing: Preamplifier Weiliang black 6010D Opa, World class clone, with 10 x Signetics OPA 5534AN and 4 x OPA OPA2228PA Burr Brown Two Power amplifiers Hypex UcD400HG HxR | UcD (The NCore 400 were too sharp for me) DAC Topping DS50, 32 bit 96000 Hz Loudspeaker ASW Genius 510, impedance minimum 2.6 ohms...🤦 I have a total of six stereo systems, the rest is everything Harman/Kardon, I'm crazy, I know. 😁 I will compare the ZA3 with the Weiliang 6010D exactly, the V3 would probably be too hot, but I don't want that, so I didn't order it. I will only connect the ZA3 via XLR and with standard Opa´s. Do you want to know more? (A saying from Starship Troopers.)

Nice review. I like the honest, no-bs way of thinking and describing things which are subjective and leaning towards "right brain hemisphere" approach to music listening. I would give a suggestion you try one of the AKM 4499EX or EQ DACs out there. I'm having both old fashioned BB-based CD-player/DACs and a double 4499EX one and both sound very musical, evolving and non-fatiquing. I had a Topping DX7s and while super detailed, with a "dark background", speed, etc. I found it more suitable for contemporary heavily-processed music rather to the acoustic and naturally-sounding music I listen to most often these days. In a nutshell I find current AKM line-up closer to an R2R sound while keeping most of the detail newer multi-bit delta-sigma DACs have.

If they can manage to make a KPH30i Clear in a wireless variant that's where my $100 would be going.

Just a slight update here. There was some confusion on models. The headphone I've reviewed is the HE1000se, it's current price is $1545 (still a great headphone at that price: store.hifiman.com/index.php/he1000se-openbox.html. The cheaper headphone is the HE1000 Stealth (see why I was confused), it's price is sub $1100. I imagine it's a great headphone, but I don't know that I've heard that one. Also, there are refurb Arya Organics for $949, which is a pretty killer deal too: store.hifiman.com/index.php/arya-organic-refurbished.html

with iems (that requires very little power compared to high impedance headphones) do you still hear a difference beween uno and k7 ? or do the sound improvement of k7 over uno only happens with full size headphones ? thanks

Ive watched other channels acclaim these op amps, after Danny's recommendation from GR-R i did the deed and i got ear candy results in an ole free Sony 2ch stereo. and no other hacks. stock crossover, cheap hardware wires, TV ear out via RCA for source, and very wow. i got everything Danny sez, if only i got all thee other hacks how much greater would it get? crazy good.

Good review, thank you. I got the Nano recently to upgrade my Sundara. Thinking about returning it and getting the Organic instead now that Organic is 979. I want to use it for music production in addition to my monitors. So here is my question: does the Organic has the same quick transient response and ability to resolve the bass as the Nano? One of the benefits of the Nano over my monitors, is that I can evaluate bass knowing there are no room interactions. Another advantage is that the Nano is so fast that adjusting compressors and identifying clicks etc is better than the monitors. Want to make sure I don’t reduce those benefits. Generally I am happy with the sound of the Nano just tempted to upgrade.

When Hifiman rolled out the clearance sales this fall, I couldn't pass on the Arya Stealths for "cheap". So I grabbed the R7 to function as a hub for my PC audio setup, the Aryas sound nice with the R7 to my casual untrained ear, especially after I got the balanced cable for it. I still plan to get Schiit Vali3 on the side to try out how them tubes sound and for speakers I'm thinking Schiit Rekkr for an amp (since I'm already set on the Vali3 and I like my setup somewhat uniform visually) with Micca RB42 or MB42X G2 for compact speakers since it's a PC setup after all. I like the great number and variety of all the inputs and outputs the R7 has and since it's an android os, you can add all sorts of neat audio visualizers etc from the play store to flare up the experience. Loving it so far! My experience in hifi prior to this is limited to investing in Hifiman Sundara x Topping DX3 Pro+ a year ago after visiting a local Hifi con but my current living situation doesn't support bassy speaker setup if I wanna upkeep the relations with the neighbors :)

Thanks for the review. I've had this since it's release and have been happy using it as a bedside DAC/amp for Tidal and also digital vinyl rips using the SD card slot, just with a HIFIMAN Edition XS and sometimes even IEMs. Great idea to add the volume wheel. Agree a remote would make things easier. Thanks again. :)

It's pretty nice. A lot of these recent streamers are. The problem is, being android based, it's destined to become a brick after a few android updates. Only really big companys have the capability to invest in software development in the long run. The typical audio company's focus is sell the newer model. No way they're going to invest in gear they don't sell anymore.

I think they are both excellent. I'd say 1000se if you don't mind a little treble, Organic if you're more prone to be bothered by treble.

I didn’t really like the stealth much for the same reasons especially as I listen to and create house and techno. I loved the organic and the nano. I think I’d like a nano but with a little less aggressive transients and a much better soundstage. I just finished watching the review and saw your nano section - we seem to agree very closely. I really like the LCD-X too. What did you think of the 1000SE? Is it more boring like the stealth or amazing?

I’ve owned one for 3 years now and I’m still as amazed today as I was the first month I listened to it at its exceptional chops. It’s almost like the drivers are big screens and the sound comes spatially from “Everywhere”. It’s always been my favorite headphone. Great review !

HF 600 is unconfortable. Sundara is fatigueing. Really... I don't super like either. I loverd the hifiman he 400 se, but mine broke. I think you should buy a Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (80 Ohm). I think it's better. Well ofc ideally you get all of them and enjoy the pros and cons of each.

Thanks for a great review! I’m contemplating picking up a used pair for EUR 950 (seems like a exceptional deal). The problem is that I just sold my Fiio K9 Pro and currently only have a Fiio KA17. Do you think the KA17 will be able to drive the HEKse to near thier potential (balanced output is 650w into 32ohm).

recently acquired some HE1000se. They are an absolute steal at their new price. Beautiful on almost any amp. Fantastic headphones when you upgrade cable and pads. The Dekoni fenestrated are excellent (£60). Currently using £50 graphene/palladium/silver Lunashops cable that sounds great. I actually enjoy them as much as my 1266Phi but for different reasons...
