With the original Fallouts i felt like a needed a guide to play the game. The manuals with 1 and 2 were useless. There's nothing wrong with games with a learning curve and games without challenge are boring but you seriously need the wiki open on another screen to play those two games.

Imagine playing Skyrim and every dungeon is a copy paste of bleak falls barrow. That is how Starfield feels.

I'm in my 40s. I had to experience Bethesda's fall from from grace. Played Daggerfall like crack. Coping year by year, game by game, it was like watching a friend die of cancer. I had considered them dysfunctional and "past on' in the 76 debacle. 😢

Dont get me wrong. I enjoy starfield. Its a decent game But my issue is that it should've blown my socks off. Its supposed to be a generational iconoclast level game, like skyrim was. It makes people like me (who generally love bethesda games) highly concerned about the future for things like ES6 or FO5. If the same designers, same writers, same company is working on those games, without making significant changes, its not going to live up to any expectations, let alone any hype. And thats very disappointing. I suppose all that is to say: you can't relive your youth. Nothing will ever be as magical as it once was. I guess I'll just keep playing Oblivion and New Vegas forever, lol.

"Skyrim is one of the most successful rpgs of the last decade." My brother in Christ, skyrim isnt from the last decade. Its older today than ocarina of time was when Skyrim came out.

The problem with Starfield is it's terrible exploration. I actually quite enjoyed the story. That however lasted me 25 or so hours. The cities themselves were also amazing. The problem is on any given planet, I had absolutely zero reason to traverse off the beaten path in any given direction for even 10 minutes, because I knew it was always going to be barren land. Nothing to do or see. In a typical Bethesda game or any good open world game, I frequently go off the beaten path and can spend hours doing so. Because you know there is a chance you can accidentally stumble upon something amazing. In Starfield, that's not the case. Aside from the points of interest, there is nothing. Just empty land. Then to take it further, there is no true free travel. It's loading screens. I'd infinitely prefer one large open-world densely packed with content, where there are no boundaries on travel. That is true exploration. I found out very quickly Starfield was not about true exploration. Now, for the 25-30 hours or so I put into the game, I did have a good time, but that is because I was enjoying the story. After that though, I have no reason to go back, or do the side content, whereas I am going back to other open world games all the time. The time they spent on Starfield should have been allocated towards either Fallout or ES. It's not a game like Fallout or ES that people will come back to a decade from now. It's just not. It was a waste of a development cycle.

Bethesda owes their games replayability and their companies popularity as a whole entirely to the modding community that they do not show nearly enough appreciation towards.

Bethesda's treatment of Obsidian is especially galling when you consider the incredible desparity in quality between Fallout 3 and New Vegas. And I say this as someone who enjoyed Fallout 3. Also I forgot how ass that cover of "Country Roads Take Me Home" in '76 is.

I Understand why people didn't like Starfield but for me a person who have played 100s and 1000s of hours in Bethesda titles and many other games, I really enjoy Starfield, Quirks aside the grand scale of the stories is what made it a great game for me.

Using review scores, an absolutely arbitrary and impossible to control metric to determine bonuses, was ALWAYS a dumb decision, whether they were futzing over a single percentage point or not. I'm not the sort to just claim Fallout 3 is the worst thing ever. There are things I still love about that game. What I will say is this. When I think "environmental storytelling", Bethesda has never crossed my mind. I think Cyan Worlds and the Myst series. I think From Software and their Souls games. I think the Metroid games, starting from Super Metroid and continuing on into the Prime series. Though, Bethesda has done some good environmental storytelling here and there. I love the "wild wandering" aspect of Fallout 3, which I think does that particular aspect of Fallout games better than any other including the originals.

Ive been a bethesda fanboy for a long time since the morrowind days but looking at Starfield it was and ok game it seemed like an interesting idea but the story was just so boring (atleast the main story) and they made the game so big that there is hardly any populated planets and they could’ve added alien npcs like if you were in star wars but no its all just humans
