When I studied at Doshisha University in Kyoto, I lived in a homestay with an upper middle manager at Nintendo. He saw me play the Game Boy Advance I had and told me that a better version would be announced soon, and indeed I would find myself buying an SP. He told me that typically they design major hardware in groups, thus you get Gamecube/Wii/WiiU, Game Boy/Color/Light, Advance/SP/Micro, DS/3DS... And they are usually all designed at the same time with minimal changes in the years following until their release, usually only the main processor and RAM if it becomes cost effective to upgrade. It seems likely that the Switch will be followed by a somewhat similar system in many ways if things haven't changed. And $70 games... I remember in elementary school saving my meager allowance for months to get Street Fighter II on Super Nintendo... Then as a junior high schooler to get Super Street Fighter II on 3DO, all for that price... It's good to be a responsible adult where buying video games doesn't really impact the budget anymore!

On the subject of game prices, I was amazed to see Skyward Sword is STILL $60 on Nintendo's online store. The game released 12 years ago!

My last console was the Wii... about 500 years ago. And the only console I could see me buying in the future would be a Wii 2 for I'm far to fumble-fingered and bad-eysighted for controlers and/or handheld.

If the switch 2 does come out, I'm only going to buy IF its backwards compatible. I have so many switch games and I don't want to pay for them all over again just to play them on the new console!

I definitely think we’re getting backwards compatibility thankfully! But it’s interesting to see analyst have to clarify that, I wonder if there was talks at one point if they’d actually carry games over or not! Based on their trends, as long as the Switch 2 isn’t some insane switch up format wise, I imagine those little carts will still carrying over, but Switch 2 carts might look a little different or something haha Thanks for the comment dude! Wii was backwards compatible with the GameCube. DS/DS Lite was backwards compatible with the GameBoy. 3Ds was backwards compatible with DS The Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility with the switch.

They’ve been the most consistent about ensuring at the very least one generation of backwards compatibility is there, and then bank off anything prior to that. If they didn’t go backwards compatibility, I’d be genuinely shocked, especially with how many modern active casual game fans they have now that openly self identity as gamers. For them to not be able to carry their libraries over, would be INSANE. Definitely curious how all the digital stuff and what not carries over, since this is the first generation on generation that should share the same marketplace/account info, no? If the switch is going cost 400€ with no backwards compatability and 70€ games I definitely won't buy it and I would just buy a steam deck

I suspect the 400€ is gonna the case, and so is the 70 dollar games I’m afraid :/ Steam Deck is such a god damn compelling purchase for handheld gaming though, near second to none at its price point power, and most importantly, library! Thanks for the comment dude!
