...mate; you looks like G. Lopez from the 70s...anyway; your walking and grabbing of the planer reminds me to J. Phillips; somehow. In my opinion US blanks have the most complete catalogue and stringers combos however; Arctic have better molds quality; Surfblanks (Aussie) have the best chemistry but not so many plugs options; Surfblanks Brazil (Teccel) have the lightest density etc Cheers

I've watched 8:30 to 9 about half a dozen times. It sounds like you are saying that by keeping the rocker low in the tail by shaving the tail down, you keep the rocker flatter, which gives you more speed. The part I'm not fully understanding is how the deck is giving you "lift". Could you expand on the concave and rocker in the deck, giving you lift? Cheers
@Mongiloyd6 күн бұрын
Hi mate, water flows over the board while noseriding. So the concave in the back of the deck (where the water is flowing) holds water and therefore creating lift. This also happens without a concave, but the concave (on the deck of the tail) it provides more of it. The more traditional approach is adding rocker the the tail of the board and roll (on the bottom), however, as Zack said, slows the board down in general.
@vidoseaver6 күн бұрын
@@Mongiloyd@Mongiloyd Ahh, so not lift in the traditional sense, but lift from water running over the top of the board. Got it. Thanks for chiming in.

I will never forget surfing HUGE winter Swami's in the late 70s and Ben Aipa was out surfing. I was one of the few going left that day LOL
@stormy0768 күн бұрын
If you take thickness from the top you end up with a soft deck, it’s better to thin from the bottom then adjust your nose and tail thickness from the top.
@zack_flores5 күн бұрын
True! Deck will be slightly more prone to dent the deeper you cut into it. Even though I usually take a bit of foam from the deckI never get big foot wells or pressure dings, even with only 6+6 decks. I’m sure as blanks have continued to improve this has become less of an issue.
@sctim1238 күн бұрын
well if you take an even pass off the entire bottom you're not altering the rocker. Also - are you doing a reverse rocker? looks like you're calling the nose the tail based on the blank logo
@zack_flores5 күн бұрын
Yes if you are able to take totally even passes on the bottom it won’t alter the rocker, but I wouldn’t be able to get my desired deck rocker if I took foam off the bottom so I took it off the deck. Yes I’m doing reverse rocker

Yeww been waiting for this for months!! thanks man for this video! One question, do you make cross cuts when working on rockers? it would be nice to make one about how cross cutting using the planner! looking forward to the next one, cheers!

@Mongiloyd9 күн бұрын
Looks more like 3T, but it's often not about the endpoints, rather the curves. Also, wouldn't try to copy exactly what Zack is doing, I mean, he's on a different level xD I learned the hard way that it's best to use the natural rockers that are the ballpark which you want to end up with. Flattening rockers is hard to get good.
