Yeah, well sorry for taking a month to put everything together 😛 More time can probably be found but I'm happy to let that be a benchmark for anyone else for now... only real strategy I had for practice laps was I was lifting off the throttle into the corner and like tapping the throttle on and off a few times on corner entry before pressing the button again... idk how to really explain it tho... in hindsight I should have put a controller input up on my recordings, oh well lol Race WR's intrigue me in you could sideswipe a backmarker when overtaking them and get a big speedboost on top of using them for the draft beforehand... basically bumpdrafting in an openwheeler... that seems a good way to go for at least some crazy fastest race lap times, but seems janky as anything to try to execute because half the time it doesn't work... but it's possible to lower the benchmarks even further than what you've already done. I probably am done with this for now other than doing a full 200 lap Indy 500 just to say I've done it, cause 200 laps with damage and AI mobile chicanes seems like a fun way to spend a few hours, right?
@AwibaeGibbon

@@GTracer01 I've done the sideswipe on some of the backmarkers before and you do seem to get a nice speedboost, sometimes over the highest speed I've gotten with draft, but yeah like you said its very janky and could kill your race if you do it wrong. Another thing I tried out a little bit was starting a little in back of the grid in order to get a starting slingshot from a car in front of you, dont know if i do it in any records tho. In some of the tracks (i forget which) it seems advantageous to start in at least second because you get a better line and a speed boost from the draft. I am also probably done with this game unless some random obsessive compulsion comes over me to beat some times. Might try out some of the other things the game has to offer before letting it collect dust though. I haven't touched any part of the game except the main races, championship, and practice. I didn't even know indy had chicanes, thought it was all left turns (which is dumb now that i think of it cuz i live in one of the street circuits lol)

Thanks 🙂 It wasn't the fastest lap in the hotlap challenge but it was still good fun to drive on. Thank you so, so much for making this track, it was really fun to learn such a small and deceptively tricky circuit that has a lot going on. I do need to find time to enjoy Anglesey, Blandford and Boreham, I have the tracks in my GPL install already, I just need to find a bit of time to go on track and properly experience them all 🙂

Thanks 🙂. I'm surprised it's still #1 on the rankings after all this time. I haven't checked the leaderboards in some time as I don't have a PC capable of playing the game anymore, but it seems that somebody has gotten close now... much like at the TT this year, records are meant to be beaten though 😉 One day I'll get a new PC and revisit this game probably because my 6 lap race effort wasn't recorded, nor was it very clean, as well as trying the newer 3rd game in this series and see what I can do there lol

Not sure, it's still a bit of a weird one. This car in general handles weird over bumps and elevation changes, wing on or off, probably running a more unstable setup to get turn-in probably doesn't help things either. Nobody else seems to really report wild flips out of the blue though Also I think I got back on the wing after I started steering into the turn, so that probably added an extra element of chaos that caused everything to go as crazily as it did 😄

Thanks 🙂 I've updated the video's description with a link to the lp, ini and camera files I did for the track. Credits to the original trackmakers of course for setting everything up originally It's been 7 months since I've driven on the track so not totally sure how well the settings race and what not (I do know I removed short-cut penalty checks from the chicanes on the ini file for the sake of the video incase I locked up)... the races for the AI are somewhat stable... though you can occasionally get some pileups in the opening chicane, especially if someone is also leaving the pits at the same time... part of the fun I suppose😀

Wow, what a great lap! I don't know if my 33:17, done with the Alfa T33 (which is my personal record around the Targa) it's a good time or not.
@GTracer01
@GTracer01 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching 😀 33:17 is an amazing laptime for Targa regardless other people's efforts. Anyone doing a lap there deserves credit on having completed such an amazing and difficult track. If that's a good time or not, I don't really know either. My guess at the moment is that the Porsche and Chaparral 2F (the only other 2 Sportscar Extra cars I've driven) are about 45-60 seconds faster than the original version of the mod (I've got a 32:44 in the Porsche and 32:47 in the Chaparral though both can be improved) Over a lap at Targa the Alfa is about as fast as the Porsche (maybe slightly faster?), I guess a 33:17 would be around 34:00 to 34:20 in the original mod, which would put you 3rd, 4th or 5th, which is definitely an amazing effort😀 I guess we have to wait and see... hopefully not too long 😉

Hi Paul, I recommend you to do a lap in its original version, as it doesn't have those irregularities in the asphalt. Too much time is lost with the graphic update of that track.

@GTracer01 Жыл бұрын
Hi Pablo, thanks for the tip 🙂 I didn't realise the 'graphic' updates changed so much with the bumps and track surface, as well as adding extra haybales and painted lines to change track limits at the first turn and the turns near the 'pits'. I did 1 practice run and after 2 laps I already went quicker than this lap (but nowhere near as quick as your own lap though 🙂 )

@GTracer01 Yes, the same thing happened to me haha, but when I made the change I saw the results. It's a bit complicated this track at first, I was quite surprised by Clark's lap time. It demands a bit more from you to reach the reference time. I saw your laps and they are great. Great handling, maybe you use a joystick or some similar device?. I see you have very good results in a short time, that's impressive.
@GTracer01
@GTracer01 Жыл бұрын
Thanks 🙂 I have a Logitech gamepad I use for driving, 1 joystick for steering, the other joystick for combined throttle and brake. I haven't used a wheel for any games in many years now (all my GPL rank times from 2016 onwards are with a gamepad) so I'm probably faster with a gamepad now anyway I gave myself a goal of spending 30 minutes on each track before moving onto the next one. Vallelunga, Snetterton 1967 (I've driven the 1964 track), Tulln and Hockenheim I'd never driven on at all, so learning the tracks and cars at the same time I was happy enough to be relatively close to you and the other frontrunners in just that time at tracks like Jarama and Vallelunga. I could probably spend more time on the cars to get a bit faster but I'm content with my first run. I prefer closed wheel cars still, the original GT mod (I haven't driven the much faster Sportscar Extra mod beyond a few laps of Targa Florio and the Nurburgring right after the mod was released) and Can Am 1966 I'm a bit more comfortable with driving fast 😉

In the F2 mod, all FVA engined cars should be shifted at around 9400 RPM. The remaining 400 RPM are pretty much obselete because there's less power above that threshold. Also the cars like higher brake bias than pretty much all other mods. I use about 4-5% higher brake bias for F2s than normal. If you use no trailing throttle under braking, you're best off with at least 56 to 58% brake bias, perhaps even more.When I started driving this mod (when I had no clue about setups), I just imported a Lotus 49 setup and had to use 63% brake bias (because the car was so unstable on the rear), but was still able to go very fast. Optimal tyre pressures are 26 PSI/179 kPa. In general the F2 default setups are pretty good. Most importantly, as always in GPL, you need to find a good differential (ramp angles) that suits your driving. Then you'll be set up well to drive the F2s well.
@GTracer01
@GTracer01 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips, here I am driving like an idiot with 51% brake bias (gamepad user so no trailing throttle possible) and 21 PSI cold pressure (which I don't think even works out to be 26 PSI hot pressure). I did at least start all these F2 videos with the disclaimer I have no idea what I'm doing in this car at least... I did realise about being able to use a bit more power at the top of the RPM range after I finished the main ranking tracks with a lap around the Isle of Man and starting (and quickly failing one) at the Targa Florio. I could have slightly shorter gearing everywhere and probably gone slightly faster from gearing alone. The worst part about the setup for me at least was the massive understeer on power in higher speed corners, at least when pushing too hard like I was in all these videos. When not at the limit it was quite a balanced car (the TT lap, as different as that track is I admit, the car was beautiful to drive around there even with this exact same setup, probably cause I was driving at 98% instead of 108% 😛) Copying my slightly less terrible Lotus 49 setup with a lot softer springs and rollbars, and an 85/45/1 diff setting I used to be able to drive 7 years ago, and in combination with Pablo's tip about the track changes with the 'graphic' update made my Tulln lap much faster at least, and got pretty close to my fastest time at Vallelunga (where I have had the most practice in these cars) with just a few laps of practice too. Thanks again 🙂

Nice lap - Once you are way up high on the outside grass/sand of Tarzan - steer right to face the infield - then cross the track to hit those inside curbs square on with both front wheels at the same time - the effect should be a front flip when your rear wheels also hit the curbs and you should nose the base of the fence and flip over fence.

Was lucky enough to get a ride round Goodwood in the late '80s, the chicane had long since gone by then though. Hey Paul, you should do a new NR2003 career mode, racing as yourself (Paul Mcadam) Busch Series: 1998-2000 Cup Series: 2001 and beyond. Storyline: Paul Mcadam entered the NASCAR scene in 1994, racing for Hagan Racing in the #14 Chevy Lumina but he was let go after the first 9 races of the season. He continued to focus on Late Model racing but returned to NASCAR in 1997, competing in the first 11 races of the 1997 NASCAR Busch Series season in the #97 car and now in 1998, Paul Mcadam is looking to stay in NASCAR.

Hey there, thanks for watching 🙂 As for trying a new career mode... I have been testing something for 2001 to get back into racing cause I haven't driven anything in years, but not racing a Cup set (Busch Series again for shorter races and it's got pre-made entry lists for each race which is really cool)... If all goes well they'll eventually get uploaded once I have a few of them in a backlog (I'm still just uploading old stuff currently) (Also I've got a 1995 Truck season I did in 2015 that I'm extremely slowly editing the races together... How that might make sense in any larger 'story' from doing a quarter of the 1994 Cup season, 1995 Trucks, half of 1997 Busch and back to Busch in 2001, I have no idea though :P I just imagine the money ran out each time, and I went back to race in the Australian NASCAR series before that collapsed as there's no carsets in NR2003 to document that😛 If I had the race results from 1994 still I'd probably just finish that season out in all honesty cause it was fun doing that but I'd rather have the full results (cause I did win North Wilkesboro so I got some good points at least)

This was not your first lap. There are skid marks in the braking area for Braddan Bridge (0:48s - 0:49s in the video) which were clearly left from a previous lap. Also, you drove the perfect line down Bray Hill and up over Ago's Rise. It's not possible to do that on a first lap without being familiar with the layout of the curves, as a lot of the track is unsighted. Overall, still a good lap though.

First full lap (probably quickly noted somewhere in the description probably), unfinished attempts never count :P This was the 2nd attempt and 3rd time attempting a lap in general , the first time the game crashed, the 2nd was the first time in a GP car in probably over a year and felt it was a bit slow and a handful and after a slide at Doran's, tweaked it up and gave it a 3rd attempt which was this... just turned around and made my own return lane down the pits and gave myself a flying start to experience Bray/Ago's and the run to Quarterbridge in full glory/terror, which it was quite something at full speed :o

So I could reproduce this, but only at the highest wing setting of 12° (Mind you, with cold tires). Interesting effect, this. I wonder if the real Chaparral 2F would have done the same thing in the exact same circumstance.
@GTracer01
@GTracer01 5 жыл бұрын
@@BrotherSimpson The wing is setup at its maximum angle of 12 degrees, and would have been in downforce-mode (don't have quite enough fingers+mobility to steer well on my left joystick and keep the button pushed for the low wing angle). Cold tyre pressures start at 180 kPa fronts and 172 kPa rears but they were quite warm by this point with 3 hard-pushing laps on them by then. Rest of the setup wasn't too far from the defaults either, just a tad more aggressive really... You'd like to think the real life equivalent wasn't capable of such things certainly, and while I've only driven the 1971 Can-Am cars and the Chaparral 2E from the Can-Am 1966 mod, and the original 2F from the 1st Sportscar mod for other downforce beasts in GPL, none of those have ever quite acted that way either, and if they or the 1969 Grand Prix cars did one probably would have heard about it by now :P Very interesting and strange indeed, especially considering I've done a couple other laps at that speed, and even my 7:51 lap video think I was a tad faster even, none of them blew other either... Probably just one of those strange things at the end of the day

I've certainly never seen it before either in any game, or at least in any game in how it's supposed to be played, have seen similar things in NASCAR Racing 2003 and GTR2 by fooling around and increasing track grip to a ridiculously high number in the former and putting a 10000HP engine in a car in the latter... but yeah to get it in a vanilla or uncustomised game/mod, it's rather odd yeah... shows how well built GPL as a game really was if it takes 21 years and a bunch of mods before something genuinely odd happens with no warning or explanation
