i just bought the Acer Predator Helios 18 with GTX4070 16gb DDR5 and 1gb storage on Newegg for $1299. 1390 after taxes. According to Newegg its a late 2024 model and has a 1080P webcam compared to the previous year!

a 4090 thats kneecapped at 88W and more expensive vs the less gamer laptop appearing less expensive unit with a 4080 that meets or exceeds the 4090. No brainer for me.

Paid $1170 for the Katana. 4070/i7 katana. Specs are good but there are alot of downsides to it related to its construction. First off it gets alot of critique about the build quality and its definatley justified. The keyboard does not feel good and they layout is wierd. The entire unit feels somewhat sticky including the touchpad which isnt a good thing. It get alot of critique about the screen aswell and its partially justified. The screen works as it should and you forget about that its not very good after using it for a while. The whole unit feels flimsly, there is alot of flex in it and standing och a flat surface its even a bit wobbly and alot of people say it tends to break around the hinges and I can definatley see why that would happen. Another thing that often gets critiqued is the cooling. Thats not justified, cooling works fine even when running demanding applications. Compared to my TUF there isnt really a noticable difference. I paid $970 for a 4060/i7 ASUS TUF and it feels infinitely better to use. In terms of actual performance there appears to be only a very minor advantage to the Katana sometimes. In 3d mark the average difference is is as low as 4 fps. And in terms of actual gaming performance they both run Cyberpunk 2077 on maximum settings perfectly fine. In fact the TUF even appears to have a slight advantage and I'm not sure why. The game also looks better on the TUF because of the better screen. I think looking around for a good deal on a TUF or spending a little extra for a similiarly spec TUF is a better option. There are also some other advantages to the TUF that makes it better for productivity such as a significantly improved battery life. Given you probably intend to use the laptop for a couple of years I would get a similiarly priced TUF instead. Its just alot nicer. However if you intend to use it as a desktop replacement where you wont even touch it and use an external monitor the Katana could arguably be the better choice.

One thing that wasn't mentioned regarding the heat via the keyboard: I have this very laptop and I can confirm that the heat over the arrow keys (and slightly above those near shift) gets very, very hot when running something that is extremely intensive. A game like Alan Wake 2 with everything cranked to max will cause that heat to bleed through easily. That being said, the fans still don't get obnoxiously loud, but they do start to ramp up. One thing I've noticed to quell this is to don't have an uncapped framerate. If you know you are getting well over what your display can output, cap the fps to your refresh rate at max, or halve it (120 for a 240 hz monitor still looks great - I'm also not a complete graphics snob) and this can have dramatic effects on temps. With AW2, this kept everything warm, but not unbearable.

Finally.. A network port. I am buying this now

@GizmoSlipTech - Thank you for your video. It was outstanding. I bought this computer yesterday. 64 gigs and RTX 4090. I paid $3300 at Best Buy. I have been doing more research since my purchase, and realized this computer does not have G-Sync or Nvidia's Advanced Optimus auto-MUX which means to swap between the MSHybrid GPU and discrete GPU settings you need to reboot the computer. I do not recall you mentioning the this computer not having G-Sync during your video. How important is this? Did you notice screen tearing at all during your tests? Not being able to use all of Nvidia's features is well kink of crappy. This seriously has me 2nd guessing my purchase and considering returning the computer. What do you think?

As a software engineer, and a laptop enthusiast, a must look at is the MSI Stealth A16 w/AI 9 CPU (STEALTHA16A3X002) bought from BestBuy. Thin portable workhorse.. One I'd highly recommend reviewing. I've owned a lot of laptops (razer 15/16, lenovo legion pro 7i, and the ASUS Zephyrus G16 2024). This MSI stealth laptop might indeed be the best all-around laptop I've ever owned. The new ASUS G16 is great too with OLED but it runs much warmer and OLED eats at battery life. All my Razer laptops run far too hot ... and on my Razer 15 2023, I ended up having to replace the speaker after only a few months. Sold my Razer 15 after that and then returned the Razer blade 16. The SSD would run so extremely hot underload and throttle in the Razer Blade 16. If you go with Razer, you'd have to go Razer Blade 18 for the best configuration($$$$). The only con to this MSI A16 AI is literally just the fact the memory is soldered. Take that out of the equation, best laptop I've owned to-date.
