I actually have been having a really funny debate with someone about it. They made a tutorial on yt and when I told them that the order matters, they kept calling me stupid lol. I've been coming back to his video every couple of years and checked up on him and if he finally learned his lesson. After 5 years, he is still calling me stupid XD

Very nice video ! In the second example, did you create a bus fx channel and "send" the signal of the original track ?
@ArcadeFL
@ArcadeFL 6 күн бұрын
Yeah kind of. But if you route multiple tracks into that "send track" then you can control how affected each track will be with the knob on the bottom of the mixer track :)

Order of effects doesn't matter for some effects, and does matter for others. Effects that are linear time-invariant can be arranged in any order, as long as there are only linear time-invariant effects present. "Linear" means that the effect is not amplitude dependent - if you apply x dB of gain before the effect, and -x dB of gain after (or vice versa), the result will be the same. "Time-invariant" means that the effect is the same regardless of when you run the sound through it - if you put the same sound through it, it'll make the same result regardless of when you do it, it doesn't change over time. Linear time-invariant effects include EQ, filters, reverb, gain, and delay. You can go EQ -> reverb -> delay -> filter, or delay -> reverb -> filter -> EQ - it'll produce the same result. And as the video demonstrates, order matters for nonlinear and/or time-variant effects, which includes compression, all types of distortion (which includes saturation, overdrive, and soft clipping), and anything time dependent, such as gross beat, or anything with an LFO or automation controlling any of its parameters.

not true if the reverb adds additional harmonics. then the difference would be quite big. and from how reverb works, it almost always adds harmonics

You're wrong! The order matters for any kind of effect.

@@tiagomonteiro8897 no. put an eq with a lowpass and a simple gain knob. now swap these. the sound doesnt change
@robots9146
@robots9146 5 күн бұрын
@@TheLazyCat000 reverb is usually linear time-invariant. it's usually either a) convolution based, which is by definition linear time-invariant, or b) algorithmic, made of delays and allpass filters, which are linear time-invariant. So reverb itself typically does not add new harmonic content. However, many reverb plugins include some amount of compression or saturation (especially in the case of analog modeled plugins, which will seek to capture the nonlinearities of analog gain circuitry), in which case the plugin as a whole is not LTI and therefore order matters.
@robots9146
@robots9146 5 күн бұрын
@@tiagomonteiro8897 the math doesn't lie. Anything that can be represented as a convolution (which is all linear time-invariant processes) can be applied in any order and will produce the same result.

Ya know, the inspiration for this video almost feels like something I'd have based an April Fool's video off of; in this case, probably making a track with entirely random ordering to the effects. Still, good points made.

Come back when Ace Studio wise-up and remove their blood-sucking subscription. Don’t be suckered into relying upon subscription models. It’s early days and you can be sure that other applications will emerge that won’t insist upon having their hand permanently inside your wallet. Note to Channel; You should have declared that this is subscription product and not a “purchase” as you dishonestly stated at 16:46, instead you wasted everybody’s time promoting a subscription service. But I’m guessing that you are ‘on the take’ with you 5% discount !!

Unfortunately this software is a credit card trap. 14-day trial but then it's subscription only. In other words you're stuck like an adobe application with a monthly charge or you lose access to your work. So unfortunate that they chose to do it this way rather than on outright purchase. I will wait for an open source version
