Honest Trailers said that the animators hands must have been suffering throughout production and this more or less confirms it as he would have been a huge pain to keep up with but bless them they did it while laughing their heads off.

At 25th anniversary: Tate Donovan: "Yeah so, why didn't you have me sing it?"[Because they had Roger Bart sing] Director John Musker: "Well... we didn't know you could sing". Tate Donovan: "Yeah when I came to audition, you put your head down, I didn't know what was going on, like is it tradition at Disney to pray before a recording session?" In reality: The director was looking at the character design of Hercules to see how well he felt the voice matched 🤣 Later for Moana, those directors' last film years later, they felt more strongly about having the voice actor being the one who sings.

Apparently, Leonard Nimoy's vocal talent was so astounding that the animators and crew would sit there and watch Nimoy record his lines with awe.

I don’t care what anyone says about this movie, I loved and still love this movie. I don’t care that it doesn’t have any of the traditional Disney singing in it, I found it refreshing to be honest. The story was great, the music was perfect, the humor and action was astounding, the characters and the voices behind them were amazing… all in all this movie was perfect.

I love this movie because of the voice actors who bring the amazing Hercules, the rememberable Phil, and the lovable Meg, and great villain Hades, and all the other voice actors, thank you
