Dawkins is either not that knowledgeable about Christianity (ignorance that he detests in others) or he is deliberately misleading on the Luke 14 passage that is limited by English language. The Hebrew word for hate means to love someone more than another and this is consistent with the old and new testament. The two greatest commands are to love God first (Matthew 22:37; Deuteronomy 10:12) and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. It is conceptually and internally consistent. It does not say to love your neighbor like you love God, which would be inconsistent. Like it or hate it, Jesus was reaffirming the old testament 10 commandments that require a person to value God above all. Not worth the time in one comment to peel back the issues on his other claims, but this one is a big one to address.

In the history of mankind, only one man stands up to scrutiny.. People who can't comprehend Jesus, easily buy into the falsehood that he was not real. But on detailed analysis, the only logical explanation that holds up is that he was Genuine. Any amount of time spent investigating the Gospels, the historical narrative and religious politics of that time will reveal that fact. The things he said and did, do not fit into any theory that such things could be fabricated for anyone's advantage. Much of what he said flew in the face of natural human and cultural conditioning. Even to this day, some of the finest minds on the planet are still trying to comprehend the magnitude of his statements. The first thing he did was find 12 eye witnesses. They often risked their lives to share the message of Jesus and testify to the miracles and Resurrection. If you know Jewish history you would know such a claim would never be fabricated. It's also an historical fact that throughout the Roman empire many were accepting Jesus as God. 31 years after the death of Jesus, the Roman emperor Nero blamed the Christians for burning the city of Rome as they were an easy target for their denial of the traditional gods of empire. The Old Testament was written hundreds of years before Jesus. Many of the Messianic Prophecies are very specific statements that God was going to send someone very important for a very important reason. The timeline for arrival, details of birth, death and significant events were all given. And what happens… Jesus shows up. A man who fulfilled these prophesies. A man that redefined humanity and history. A man who changed countless hearts and convinced millions of his Resurrection and life after death. People cannot control where and when they will be born. Hundreds of years before the Romans used crucifixion, Isiah gave specific details on the manner of death which stated his hands and feet will be pierced. A full copy of this Isiah scroll was found as part of the dead sea scrolls and is dated to hundreds of years BC.

This Jesus Mr Dawkins derides is really wonderful. When i was 17 i didn't believe in God because i'd never experienced him. My evolutionist education taught me there was no God. But i knew deep within my heart that my life must have reason to it. At the same time i was deeply depressed and was going to kill myself, there was no reason to live, i hated life and there would be no moral judgement of my life because God didn't exist. I was getting closer and closer to suicide and getting very deeply depressed with no way out. Then one day, on the bus on the way home from school i could feel Jesus was there. It was the most beautiful thing i'd ever experienced and he changed my heart, took away my depression and gave me a wonderful reason to live. It was the most real thing i'd ever experienced. Now in 2024, 38 years later i can look back and see how Jesus has always been with me, he's never let me down and he has been with me through thick and thin.

They come from God and were written in the Bible, so in that sense Richard is correct. Kind of like someone giving you money and you putting it in your wallet, this money does not come from your wallet.

Why, in both the US and the UK (less so in the UK thank goodness) has “freedom of/from religion” been mistranslated so many times (not unlike the buybul) into “freedom of bigotry and derogatory acts, so long as you’re Christian”? It’s sad that Dawkins shows how little he understands and analyzed the Ten Commandments. He seems to fail to see that the “god” of the Bible is the potential for good in everyone. So a commandment that you should have no other gods aside from goodness makes a lot of sense. So a commandment that you should not have graven idols to pretend you are good, but instead you should just be good (not a hypocrite) is a good one. His indoctrination is just too deep.
