Any difference between UAD and native versions of all the same plugins is psychosomatic, they are the exact same code. 20 years ago UAD were miles ahead of other plugin companies, but today they are on par or even inferior to other companies. Don't believe the hype.

Thanks for the video. I agree completely, and I also master to pretty similar dB and LUFS levels. I also feel, as you said, especially in electronic music, the slight conversion distortion is not as much of a problem due to the nature of the electronic genres' sound. Super sick track, by the way🔥.

Hi, thanks for a review and personal tricks. I do wonder, how have you got access to this updated skin for UAD MMP? Updated to current versions, and it is the same old school design from 2010s... Thanks!
@Nalestar9 ай бұрын
ah haha I made these for myself because I wanted to customize my plugins a bit, some manufacturers think it's a "crack" when you edit a resource file but with UAD and Plugin Alliance it works and relatively easy to do, I can send over this one or can also show how to edit it to your taste if you'd try a different color or etc 😃
@iljakorjukin9 ай бұрын
@@Nalestar I think this is good idea for a video tutorial. Customization is nice, maybe there are more parameters and knobs one can automate and link? As, for example, low and high boost with one knob. Or to make a Q factor proportional to dB amounts of boost / cut. If this is not an option, just a skin, would be still nice to see your process!) Thanks for a response and a revelation of a "secret".
@Nalestar9 ай бұрын
@@iljakorjukin nooo haha this isn't a code level change so no functions will be altered at all only the look of the plugin - all you have to do is go to "/Library/Application Support/Universal Audio/UAD-2 Powered Plug-Ins", right click on the plugin you want to mess with and select "Show Package Contents", then navigate to the "Resources" folder where you'll find all the available files that you can edit to your liking, hope this helps 😇

Another KZbinr 🤦🏻♂️ sitting in front of the camera doesn’t know what he is talking about ….also not even prepping for the video… You don’t bring low end down coz of the limiter Just have a balance mix to begin with rather than just worry about the limiter There is a side chain button on limiters to cut below certain frequencies so that the limiter do not react to it while limiting
@mannymore_music9 ай бұрын
Reference comparison is so important, btw which peak dB do you master to because apparently streaming services can distort due to a codec change when the master volume is higher than -1dB, but I always feel like the song sounds better at something like -0.5 or even higher, also what is the LUFS you aim for, because I think no dance producer actually goes for like the -14 that Spotify wants, and I feel like no matter how good my mix is a -14 LUFS loudness just doesn't sound right for house/EDM/techno. Sorry for the long text, just curious :)
@Nalestar9 ай бұрын
I'll make a video about this next week because this is too long to answer in text, but long story short you're right - if you realllly care about avoiding conversion peaks then sometimes even 2dB of headroom won't be quite enough therefore aiming for 1 is kinda pointless, I personally deliver my final exports at -0.3 because that little clipping that this allows will sound "contextually right"; I don't care much about the intergrated loudness throughout a song from this perspective because instead of trying to cater to algorithms my approach is to simply make the song sound great which sometimes means -7, sometimes -9, sometimes -11 etcetc, you can't aim blindly for a number before you look for what the production allows you to do (my general approach is to go as loud and energetic as the instrumentation allows me, unless I know that the artist prefers more dynamics than my own taste) 😇
@mannymore_music9 ай бұрын
@@Nalestar Thank you so much! This is also my approach to managing loudness, I mostly end up somewhere between -7 to -9 of integrated LUFS as well depending on the genre and production, and I don't think the conversion clipping is too much of an issue either, I honestly don't even notice it on Spotify. Looking forward to that video, I think it will be interesting for a lot of guys especially in the electronic scene. Cheers

Hello! Thanks for videos, do you always use compression on the master channel?
@Nalestar9 ай бұрын
99.99% of cases yes haha, but of course there are a few exceptions when it doesn't make much sense for example when I'm only interested in loudness, in those cases I'll stack clippers and/or brickwall limiters instead 😇
@carll844410 ай бұрын
Thanks for this upload ! amazing. so I see you have your output at 0.1db with true peak on. In what situation you want the true peak on. In other words, what is the purpose of true peak if only you want your songs on digital streaming platforms like Spotify
@Nalestar10 ай бұрын
'True peak limiting' is about solving the issues with encoding and then decoding, it's not about Spotify or anything else specific, this affects the entire digital audio experience. So for example if something's playing at 44.1kHz normalized to 0dBFS, certain parts of the decoded output might still cross over 0dBFS even if the input info is otherwise correct because the decoder tries to "guess" what's supposed to be between the sample rate points and generates the signal that way (these are called 'intersample peaks' for a reason). Basically the point is that when your audio card sees the "encoded" 0s and 1s that are in an audio file, it then needs to be "decoded" into something you can hear with your human ears and true peak limiting is just simply supposed to account for the potential calculation errors in this decoding process 😇

Also, why did you use Serum FX for the vocal delay? Is it just because you like the way the delay sounds in Serum FX? just curious, thanks!
@Nalestar Жыл бұрын
it's both the sound and the convenience, other delay plugins either just don't have the same width/3D feel or their UI makes things unnecessarily complicated to use; that being said I haven't checked lately if there are better options on the market from either angle, maybe there are 😇

depends on the state of the song - could you pls reach out to me with your current demo mix either on instagram @nalestagram or send a mail to [email protected] and I'll get back to you with what would be the price - to give an estimate in the case of a standard single project it's going to be between 100 and 250 euros, really depends on how many things need to be adjusted and to what degree; let me know! 😇

I have a question Nale, when you are exporting stems to mix them by yourself, what do you do with reverb automations, do you leave them with reverb plugin that you are automating and export them in the stems or not? For example if you have a reverb and delay automation in the build up, what do you do?. And then do you erase all your insert reverbs in the entire track or you leave some of them ( like for example in the ambiance or background arps)?
@Nalestar Жыл бұрын
if I set up reverb or any other automations on inserts I consider them as parts of the 'production' process and not 'mixing', meaning I print everything with all effects and automations to move on to actually mix the produced song which already includes those automations 😇
