Wayne was my Great Uncle. He passed away January of 2011. He often talked about this fight. He said when Sonny hit him, he felt like he was being kicked by a mule 😅. After Boxing Uncle Wayne became a Truck Driver, and resided in the Bronx. Born in Latta, S.C., he was the youngest of 14 children, and outlived all of his siblings.

Rocky definitely won Round 4. And landed punches they were calling misses, cause you can see joe's head getting snapped around.

Dempsey had won the title only the year before, so he was in his prime. He had beaten Brennan before and Brennan was a fairly one-dimensional fighter with a mediocre record. If Harry Wills had been the opponent instead, he likely would have out-boxed Dempsey.

Bravo.

The 7th round knockdown was Dempsey's last great moment in the ring. A great career.

He was suffering heat exhaustion, almost a heat stroke. He had gone up in weight and this guy was too big, Ray was past his prime, and it was very hot. He lost though fair and square. Still my favorite and the best ever.
