Can you point me to a similar "How-To" for changing the older style Scalextric guide and braid (blue guide fin)? Do they just pull straight out?

Like the layout but what I've found is obviously all cars are different and magnets are easier but it takes skill to race the cars without magnets and personally I prefer that kind of racing as although it's slower once you know the car it is a lot more fun. Practice makes perfect and patience is key but it's great that you're children are into the slot car scene as it is a great hobby and something you can do whatever the weather and it's obviously important to tune the cars first, tyres, wheels etc. Love the sport and enjoy yourself with your family and friends in having some great fun. Kind regards Michael 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Cheers for the nice comment. I totally agree, it's more fun without magnets, definitely takes a lot more skill. Getting the kids into it slowly, different cars with different strength magnets, they enjoy it a lot 😎

Excellent review!! I’m looking for a rtt also for me, wife and kid, and this one is probably my favorite one. I’m also interested on the Autohome Overzone and the Howling moon. My concerns with this tent is how it behaves in windy conditions. Do you recomend the 1.6 or 1.8 for 3 people? Think that I’m in Spain so the summer is long and hot and will be nice to have space between bodies to be as fresh as possible. Last question, how do you manage to con connect the 270 awning with the annex installed? I mean connection of the tension strap through the wall. I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks!!
@scalextric-hobby
@scalextric-hobby 6 ай бұрын
1.6 is more than enough for 3. We were 2 adults and 2 kids, then along came another child, and it got a little cramped, but worked until he was about 3. Wind, no problem. We have been in a fair few storms, the worst one being in the mountains in northern Sweden, very very windy to the point where we thought we would have to pack up but the tent held up very well. As long as you strap it down there will be no issues. Super impressed.
@RogerCampillo
@RogerCampillo 6 ай бұрын
Ok. Thanks! In wind do you close the windows? My concern is not if it will withstand but how much flapping and noise it does. What about the plywood base? Plywood should be the bes isolation solution, but how does it feels? Noise? Bending? The diesel heater, do you put into the annex room and leave the door open to warm up the tent? Thanks a lot!
@RogerCampillo

@@scalextric-hobbynice and what about to setup the awning with the annex walls installed? How do you do that?
@scalextric-hobby
@scalextric-hobby 6 ай бұрын
Obviously there is a bit of noise when it's super windy but you get used to it, my wife wore ear plugs. Setup is and pack down is pretty easy after a few times, 7mins up and about 10mins down. Annex is easy to setup too, and packing it down is easy, we just folded the walls up and put them on the tent just before the final transport cover. All our sleeping bags and bedding stayed in the tent. Diesel heater we brought in through the annex, it warmed everything up good. Kept the windows open during wind, it wasn't a problem. Awning tensioner just went through the annex with no problem.

@scalextric-hobby
@scalextric-hobby 7 ай бұрын
Sorry for the very late response. How's your track looking? I've had this issue before and it was a combination of track and car, start with the car, make sure the wires from the motor are making good connection to the braid plates, also install new braids. On to the track, start by cleaning the rails, i first vacuum off the whole track then use a small amount of autosol (metal polish) to clean the rails and after that I go over it with electronic cleaning spray and then finally a microfibre towel. Over time the rails get full of dirt, continuity is reduced causing connection issues and jumpy cars. If you're using the track a lot then regular cleaning is a must.

Yeah, I think if it was 1mm smaller in diameter it would of been a little easier. After more testing round the track after the video upload, it broke 😖 too brittle the material. The concept works tho. I'll see if I can find some printed with a stronger material. I get blasted with import and VAT charges when buying from UK so that line is closed for me ☹️

The base shown at 1:09 also has a switch which allows it to be used to control 1 or 2 cars. This allows use the use of one crossover track to give a continuous circuit for one car. There is a similar looking power base that doesn't have the switch, which can't be used to run just 1 car on a continuous circuit, if that makes sense.

I took my kids 25 yr old Scalextrics track out of the attic. It had been in our basement in a cold climate, our attic in a warmer climate. Our attic gets really warm. One lane wouldnt work. Unscrewed the terminal wire cover and one of the power lines to that unworking lane had come off. I resoldered the wire and it worked! Pretty sure somebody must have stepped on the track at some point. Took a while of cleaning the track and running cars to get it smoothly running. The boys came home for Christmas and were amazed.

@@shiftintohigh5564 my plan to keep the kids in and keep them off the IPads is to let them build a scale world around the track as they love painting and making things. Another few weeks and I'll split the garage in 2 and build a scalextric / hobby room for them. The possibilities are endless.
