Hey :) I have a few questions about the Moog Mother-32 - maybe you can help me ;) I have a Moog Mother-32. It is connected to the Motu-M2 interface with an instrument cable and a MIDI cable. It all goes to Ableton Live 11 Suite. I know how to record sound to the Audio track from the Mother-32, but I don't know how to record a MIDI track (unless it's not possible at all?). There is an External Instrument plugin on the MIDI track. All inputs/outputs/channels are set up rather correctly - there is a signal everywhere. I also have a ROLI Seaboard Block M keyboard and the question is can I play with it so that I can simultaneously control the sound etc. with the Mother-32? (i.e. I play on Roli, spin everything on Mother-32 and record it all to Audio or MIDI track. I can't do that :( I record ROLI without any problems to MIDI tracks with any VST plugins I want. I record Mother-32 to Audio tracks. However, I don't know how to connect it all together :( Thanks in advance for all the advice ;)

Unfortunately is it not possible to record MIDI from the Mother-32 as there is no MIDI Out. You can only send MIDI to the M-32. If you use External Instrument on a MIDI track in Ableton, you should be able to control the Mother-32 with your ROLI. You can record the MIDI data from the ROLI on this MIDI track. If you want to record the audio coming from the Mother-32, you need to create a separate audio track.

@@ClausGahrn Thank you for the quick reply :) It looks complicated :) I record guitars, Roli and Push 2 through various VSTs or effects like Qyuad Cortex. However, I cannot handle the Mother-32 recording "smoothly". When I have something recorded on a MIDI track and I start recording an Audio track using Mother-32, strange things happen... What is recorded on the MIDI track is played back and can be modified a bit using the Mother-32 when I record an Audio track. I don't know if that's the point of playing with Mother-32 and recording (?) I don't know if I can figure it out I wanted to start recording Ambient but I can't handle it physically :(

Amazing electronic track, man! The quality is top-notch, and your creativity shines through as always. Great job Claus. I find your approach to music truly innovative. Every time I feel demotivated or stuck, your work reminds me of why I started making music. You give me the strength to keep going and to continue experimenting. I apologize for the delay!

Finally a showcase where the sound isn't gritty bass but 'flowing'. I wanted to know if the Minitaur could do that :-)

Beautiful sound . The Subharmonicon isn't played by the Mother 32 ? Is it sync as well ? 😊
@ClausGahrn2 ай бұрын
Thanks! The Subharmonicon is controlled with MIDI. The Mother-32 is tempo synced to the Subharmonicon.

Is the reverb creating the stereo effect?
@ClausGahrn2 ай бұрын
Yes, the stereo effect is caused by the reverb.

Hi, I love your videos and was wondering if I could get your opinion. I have a matriarch and grandmother, do you think there would be any value in adding a subharmonicon or mother32, to the setup for generative ambient or do you think I should just stick with what I have? I feel like the subharmonicon’s dual sequencers and polyrhythms have more options than the sequencers on the matriarch and grandmother. Am I incorrect in thinking that way?
@ClausGahrn2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I think the Subharmonicon is a very unique instrument both in terms of the sequencer and the sound itself, and I really enjoy using it in my setup. However, the sequencer is quite different to a traditional sequencer, and it takes a bit of getting used to. I approach the Subharmonicon in a different way than the Grandmother, and I find that it works well for me in my generative work.

The low rumbling notes that sound like a ship’s fog horn. Is that just the M32 or are you using FX (reverb aside)? The rumbling, raspyness in particular. Sounds amazing

What effects are you running through the mother? Obviously reverb. But anything else?
@ClausGahrn2 ай бұрын
No, it is only reverb.

Beautiful! Also, do you have some kind of custom faceplate on your SubH or is it just the lighting? I'm thinking of getting into that, and backlit markings would be cool!

Can you make this machine play in specific keys to fit the other instruments in the mix so that everything is in tune?
@ClausGahrn5 ай бұрын
In this piece I used MIDI to control both synths. If you do not use MIDI, you can program the sequencer on the Mother-32 to play in a specific key.

I need a mother 32! I’ve been using a Mashine+ as my ambient builder it’s fine just not as tactile as I would like.
It was a long wait, but it was worth it. A unique and high quality work as always Claus. Amazing!!!

Nice. Curious about the LED patch cables with the alternating color. Is that color change based on the signal? Positive vs negative signal attenuation or something?
@ClausGahrn7 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes, the color is based on the signal. It changes according to polarity: red for negative, blue for positive. The cables are from MyVolts.
