So funny, bath tub toy. As a kid I would sneak my Bismarck into my bath, the suds made great icebergs lol.

You did an excellent job on all your Airfix ships. May I ask how did you drill the potholes to keep them aligned and what was the size of the drill bit used? Thanks in advance.

A good looking build. Where do get the photoetch? I have considered building HMS Fearless as I knew her in 1978, when she served as the Dartmouth training ship. At that time there were two portacabins on the upper deck for navigation training. As far as I can remember there were only three landing spots on the flight deck and a couple of Bosun dinghies stowed by the flight deck crane.

Thanks for sharing your builds and your knowledge of these ships. I have the 1/600 HMS Suffolk kit as well which I am trying to build and I would like to know how you managed to drill those portholes in a straight line; how did you align the center point of these holes before drilling. My kit came with the fairleads broken because the plastic is so soft and thin. From the video, I guess you have scratch built the fairleads; how did you do it? Any advice is most appreciated.

A great job on this old classic. I see that you have painted it with grey anti-fouling as current evidence shows a lot of RN ships actually had. Is there any evidence for Ajax being grey or is this conjecture?
@RF590KG844 ай бұрын
Think I copied someone elses model, always a risky business, but I'm not too worried about 100% accuracy.
@neilfreeman42494 ай бұрын
@@RF590KG84 Thanks. I have seen evidence that other RN ships such as HMS Hood and KGV had grey anti-fouling and read an opinion that Ajax may also have been. I am interested to find out what other RN ships were also grey on the bottom.

superb conversions from a pretty good kit.Do you remember the long series of conversions in the OLD airfix magazines?. They were excellent articles where a begginer in conversions could develop their skills.. I wish modern magazines would go back to those fun days Instead of the modern ten pages of "how i bought fifty quids worth of aftermarket bits and used twenty different finishing products" to build a simple modell!

Try Whiteensignmodels.com. There should be the full set of photo etch for the Airfix 1:600 range. I believe Atlantic Models also provide alternative photo etch which may be better.

Brilliant Job . My late father would of been so happy to have seen this build. He served on the Vanguard on the Royal Tour of South Africa in 1947. Still have a few old photos of the Vanguard and the crew taken during this time. I hope Airfix or another manufacturer will one day realise a commercial model of the last British Battleship.

Another great build, one more silk purse from a sow's ear. Haven't seen the Kangnam kit but don't think I'll get one anytime soon. I will be doing an Airfix Iron Duke when that's released later this year, and thanks to your inspiration, will look to super detail it with the WEM kit, Micro Master armament and boats, and a wooden deck. I built one of those as a teenager and want to see how much better it can be.

I was chatting to an Airfix rep at a model show last year and asked him if there was any chance of a re-release of this kit. He told me that they still had the tooling for it so possibly may make the 'vintage classic' range one day. Fingers crossed
@jeremyalam4805 ай бұрын
Great job. Turned a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Micro Master makes beautiful sets of both the RN 6" and 4" turrets that you could use for greater accuracy yet-ship's boats and other goodies too if you want to go the whole hog. I guess keeping costs under control was a factor, and your scratch building skills in any case worked a treat on the horrible kit items.

Remarkable rebuild that's added a tremendous amount of refinement to what is a really a crude model. Really like the toothpick mail masts-quite an ingenious use of a simple material. Too bad Airfix hasn't re-released the kit, I have fond memories of building it as a boy. Wouldn't mind having another go at it, doing something similar.
@jeremyalam4806 ай бұрын
Beautiful work. The main turrets would be well worth replacing given the amount of detail you've worked in-the kit ones just don't cut it. Real silk purse from a sow's ear.
