Like Evert says in the commentary , very few win Wimbledon on their first try . Not steffi for sure. Seles would have easily mastered this if not for the stabbing. To reach the final on her 3rd try is amazing. Sadly the grunt police pressured her that year.

I know this match is mythical because it occurred on a pioneering TV Super Saturday, and it was a close match, but Chris Evert played like crap and Martina played like crap. The one out-crapped the other.
@jonathankieranwriter5 күн бұрын
Martina, because of the nature of her serve-and-volley game, was the more “forwardly aggressive” player of the two, but from the *baseline*, Evert almost always hit a harder, deeper, more “bombing” ball than Martina on all surfaces. (Martina’s own coach, Renee Richards, famously said, “Let no one say that Chris Evert plays patty-cake tennis. Chrissie hits bombs.”) The conundrum between these two, besides their differing styles, was really a 2-year period when Evert refused to upgrade her equipment and fitness. Once she did, things shifted in remarkable ways in both tour and exhibition matches. Each were killer instinct-level aggressive in their own games. But those who think Evert was a “pusher” know nothing about tennis, or tennis of this era. Just as Martina was a smothering, fantastic serve-and-volley genius, Chris was a pounding, relentless, dictating baseline bomber (given her day and the equipment). Every baseline shot had danger on it. And Evert, in a different way, was just as brilliant a precision shotmaker/placement-genius, as Martina, with Martina’s magnificent volleys. Such a glorious rivalry. And Bud Collins was wrong, here: Martina could not approach as much as she’d like once Evert was hitting really hard and deep in the second set.

1981, when tennis was probably at its peak! These matches were like chess. You had to out outthink and outlast your opponent. None of that high tech racquets and string to overpower your opponent. And today is Bjorn Borg’s birthday!

Before this Wimbledon, the players at WTA gathered to complaint about Seles's grunt. The authority discussed with Seles and Seles did not grunt during this Wimbledon final. She was not allow to play her style, and was playing against not only Graf, but the women players, and the authority. She lost easily. It's so unfair to her. There was no rules on grunting, yet the women silenced her and muted her game.

Самая лучшая прическа Моники! И вообще она очень милая и улыбка просто солнечная. А вот теннис просто убойный, в чем-то даже мужской. Очень жаль, что травма от фаната Граф помешала ее блестящей карьере. Это ужасно ...

Ivan Lendl is one of the most impressive tennis champions who ever played because he never gave up! In this final, he was down two sets to love. John McEnroe was cruising to his first French Open title. Nonetheless, Ivan refused to give up! His stamina and resilience overcame the odds, and he came back to win this final match 3 sets to 2 against one of the finest tennis champions in history.

1:22:32 point is absolutely unique & phenomenal. The fact it is Chang who goes to the net and ends up volleying while Edberg is defending makes it even more unreal & fascinating. Props to Mr Chang for clapping at its magnificent outcome at 1:22:45 , that's real Sportsmanship !

Is this the same Navratilova whom Seles fans dismiss when Graf beat her in the late 80s for being 'old' and 'past it'? This is peak Seles, against an even older Navratilova and it looks like the 'old' and 'past it' Navratilova took it to Seles pretty convincingly.
