@beginlinuxguru735417 күн бұрын
No, it's not limited at all. If you assign this DELEGATING command alias to a user, that user will be able to open visudo, and edit it so that he or she can gain full sudo privileges. If you have a virtual machine handy, give it a try.

I dont see a problem there. It's as always. As a root user you better know what you are doing.
@beginlinuxguru735417 күн бұрын
True, an experienced administrator would know better than to enable this command alias. But, on the other hand, someone at Red Hat thought that this would be a good idea, so you never know.

I recently purchased your book Mastering Linux Security & Hardening (third edition) and wanted to know if it's necessary to use the CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-2009.iso because I can't find it on the Centos website. Thanks!
@beginlinuxguru735421 күн бұрын
First, many thanks for purchasing my book! As for your question. . . CentOS 7 was still a supported operating system at the time I wrote the book. It has now reached end-of-life, and is no longer supported. So, you can safely ignore any of the chapters that are specifically about CentOS 7. If you need to learn about Red Hat technologies, your best bet is to concentrate on the chapters about AlmaLinux 9, which is a clone of the current version of Red Hat. Ciao, Donnie

This video might as well be in Spanish.. there are so many things I need to learn now, and this video does not make it clear about any of it. I guess I'll come back in a year and watch this again.. after I learn what all these things mean.

Absolutely not. After the kernel maintainers purge, Linux is a losing preposition

Yeah, that was a foolish decision. It blows me away that Linus and the Linux Foundation did that.

Hey Donald. I've been experimenting with ansible playbooks which can push configs to thousands of target machines. I'm currently using Virtualbox to push linux configs out to target machines, and it works great and is quite easy to grasp. The idea is similar to bash scripts. Have you given it a go? P.S. I purchased your e-book "Mastering Linux Security and Hardening" and I'm slowly working through the labs and I'm learning a lot, so thanks.

No, I have to confess that I haven't done much with Ansible as yet. It's been on my to-do list, but I just haven't gotten around to it. Also, thanks much for the kind words about my book!

My thought is to avoid all RHEL/RedHat related. Red Hat is trying to extend their market to the SME space. They plan to gobble it up. They also want to capture more enterprises. They will not stop. The drama will ebb and flow, but Red Hat WILL subsume or consume Rocky and Alma. Red Hat Dev. will see the license numbers change. First 12 from 16. Then ever downward to 5 or less. If you stay in Red Hat’s realm, you’re gonna be sorry.

Not exactly. It's sponsored by the Red Hat company, but it's more an experimental distro to evaluate technologies that Red Hat is considering for inclusion into RHEL. I like it for desktop usage, but I wouldn't use it for a critical-mission server.

Hi Donnie. Just discovered your channel and I like your way of explanation. Could you please make a dedicated video about nftables for beginners. I feel there are plenty of videos which do not explain either the concepts behind it or the commands only and I believe one video explaining all this in such a way that beginners can start using nftables right away for simple cases would be good idea.

Hi there! Sorry for the delay in answering. Anyway, now that I've finished writing my shell scripting book, I'll have more time for KZbin. So, I'll see what I can do about an nftables tutorial. Stay tuned!

Nice series for someone new to Linux. Quick tip to make this easier to look at, install 'htop' and you get a very clear, coloured, interactive menu in the shell where you can easily search/filter all the system processes and see what's going on a lot more easily.

It's mainly because I got a really good deal on it from eBay. A new model that's speced out like this one would be about $2000. I only have about $700 tied up in this one. Other than that, it's a really good machine, and I'm quite happy with it.

There's no set number of spaces that you need to place between columns. If you can line things up so that they look good, that's all that matters.

00:19:00 There is a way, there is a way. Copy and paste works between other apps and Vim. In Vim press i to switch into insert mode and then paste using "Ctrl + Shift + v" shortcut to paste from the clipboard. You just need to add an extra shift key. This is the way we can also Paste in the terminal. So, it is not a Vim specific though.
@beginlinuxguru735410 ай бұрын
Yeah, the real difference isn't with vim, but with the different desktop environments. I normally use lxterminal on Fedora with LXDE, and with it I can paste into vim with just the normal right-click menu. But my video creation machine is loaded with Lubuntu, which uses another terminal that doesn't work like that. Unfortunately, I wasn't prepared for that when I made this video.
