What kind of shoe would you say for sport training? - Lot of change of direction short sprints and then lifting? I have these now and just don’t seem to have any grip on a gym floor which is what I need
@fitatmidlife9274 күн бұрын
Honestly, I don't have a recommendation for you. The Metcon 9s have more grip in my opinion and less stack height. Might be worth trying - but it is an expensive shoe to buy and find out it doesn't work.

Can you do cross training with this? Or weight lifting? They look more like soccer shoes

They don't sell these anymore, but they were firm enough to use for cross training and weight lifting. I wouldn't buy these specifically for that reason though.

Is this good for stability in legs exercises? Thanks in advance, beautifull shoes
@fitatmidlife92711 күн бұрын
Yes, they are very stable. Minimal heel to toe drop (4mm) and they have very little cushioning. These are great for heavy lifting or other things where you do not want cushioning.

I have tried most currently available CF shoe options and, for me, nothing beats the Metcon 8. I just picked up a couple more pair of Metcon 8's, as the inventory online is almost out. That said, I am intrigued by the Metcon 1 OG and did not pull trigger when released because I do not like the black/red/white color way. Nike just released a new color way (black/white/metallic cool grey) that I really like, so I pulled the trigger and they should arrive any day. I THINK this also supports the notion that the Metcon 1 OG was release in lieu of the Metcon 10 . . . which I suspect will eventually be released? I wear the Metcon 8 for every WOD EXCEPT (1) only running, for which I wear running shoes and (2) WODS with substantial running mixed with other movements, for which I wear the Nike Flex Control 4. Of other shoes I have tried, the Haze Trainer, INOV8 260 V2 and UA Reign 6 are also good cross trainers but simply do not appeal to me as much as my Metcon 8/Flex Control 4 combination for everything CF.
@fitatmidlife927Ай бұрын
Nike might be moving to an "every other year" release cycle for the Metcon shoes, I guess. I'm now expecting the Nike Metcon 10 in August of 2025. But I don't have any official info. Thanks for the feedback. Those new 1 OGs should look great in that color combo.

you mentioned the heel height of the 9s but i think i missed if you said what it was for the 6s. is there a bigger heel to toe drop because of the cushion? also how does the toe box feel? does it allow for space or kind of squish your toes together?
@fitatmidlife9272 ай бұрын
I can't really measure heel to toe drop. I can measure heel height, but not the toe height, so I don't know what it is... but I can tell you this - it's not much. I'm so used to wearing metcons I can feel the difference between 4mm and 6 or 7mm (Like in the Reebok Nano).
@fitatmidlife9272 ай бұрын
Regarding the toe box. It's a tight fit, but that's partly because of the stretchy upper. So I think it's meant to be form fitting, but it's got enough give that it should be comfortable even if you need wider.

I prefer Metcon 5. The only change I'd make would be the lacing loops.. I'd put the Flywire eyelet cables on the 5, with a couple more pairs, and I'd put the loop on the heel of the 6 on the 5, and that's perfection!

Nike needs to take a lesson from this first release and do away with the solid heel on the Newer Metcons. These were the first Crossfit shoes I really enjoyed. Not so great for running but a much more user friendly shoe than the newer ones.

@fitatmidlife9275 ай бұрын
Walking - they work just fine. Comfortable to wear for long time periods - standing or walking. Honestly I don't jump rope any more - it's too much repetitive impact (I'm old). Having said that - these would probably be OK if you have healthy hips/knees.

Regarding width they are both pretty close, but realize the Free Metcon 6 is a tight, "sock like" fit. It's meant to hug your foot. So - that'll probably feel better. The Metcon 9 won't "hug" your foot like that.

@fitatmidlife9276 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say quality is less, but it's definitely lighter - I think because of the upper it's a ligheter weight material. Therefore the upper might be less durable (but more comfortable). Only time will tell, I think. To be honest the way I use these the upper doesn't get much wear and tear. I'll report back in a few weeks.

They're good for squatting, no doubt, but I don't trust them at all for weightlifting. Very cheap material such as the rubber on the sole. I had Rom 3s and the rubber came off after like 3 months of weightlifting. Switched to Reebok legacy and damn that didn't disappoint me for 3 years. Purchased the Rom 4s cuz they were on sale and heavily discounted, same issue. The cheap material, the rubber came off after 2 months of use, and it isn't very stable either. The Legacy lifter on the other hand is 10x better. Problem with the new gen Roms is that they keep using the same cheap plastic. The Rom 2s weren't like this. They were sturdy and reliable and hence the best shoes for weightlifting ever.

I just done my Tough Mudder in them. Yes kept them for 4 years till i put them to test. They actually did well in obstacles and water out really good. However the distance was more than 10 miles, so not sure there was enough support/softness as these metcons are quite hard shoe. Now i have pain in left foot, not sure it’s because of the shoue or I bashed it during obstacle. The feet felt well protected though, lacing system was tight, so to sum them up - decent performance. Not sure why nike stopped making them

Don't get sucked in to buying Altamas for the cool camo. They have a very specific function but aren't good for high miles, hard ground or cold temps. I bought them for my style of canoe tripping which doesn't involve much portaging but does require something with good traction on slippery rocks.
