Okay... holy shit. I'll be honest. The first time I played SRB2 for real was a week or two ago, and I ragequit at the difficulty spike of the last special stage. Before that, I didn't know very much about it, but I _had_ played a bit of SRB2_Kart._ My interest finally grew enough to try the game when X Sonic came out, but I knew I wasn't gonna be good enough to start with him, so I found RushChars and played as Blaze instead, with no other mods. The first time I heard of SMS was in a speedrun requests... announcements video, or something? He was mentioned in the comments, and being compared to X Sonic. Me, having absolutely no context at the time, and never having even seen him before, immediately thought "Who's SMS?" A few days later, I starting binging the existing request videos, which is when I first saw gameplay of SMS. However, I didn't put two and two together just yet, I think because I didn't know what SMS stood for. I did know I was really damn impressed, though. Watching the history lesson you posted before this video, and then this said video, back to back, was such a wild ride, and you absolutely have my interest. I also sorta resonate with 10-year-old you, wishing we could actually do the stuff Sonic does in trailers, but in gameplay. Having seen what a speedrunner can do with SMS, I can actually compare it quite nicely with X Sonic in terms of... I dunno, dedication, I guess? X Sonic was created to give us as authentic experience as possible to actually playing as the Sonic from the Sonic X anime. At least, that's the impression I have right now. From what I've seen, it's succeeded and then some. Assuming your thought process stayed mostly the same as it did back in the day, SMS was made to give us the feeling of freedom and power that actual Sonic probably has when he runs around and does stuff. Like X Sonic, you've absolutely hit it out of the park. Keep in mind that I've yet to play either mod though, as I don't believe I have that kind of skill yet. Truth be told, I haven't booted the game up again since ragequitting, I need to study the last special stage. You should be proud. Not many mod creators bother to stick it out for this long through such turmoil, with or without breaks. Not that I've seen or can recall, at least. As someone new to the community, I'm impressed. That probably doesn't mean much though, considering how new I am. Still... this mod is fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
