Basements and all the access they provide must be great. We don't have them here in Texas, so my faucet is completely sealed up in the wall behind the brick. I will have to find the washers I need. Replacing the whole thing would mean tearing out the interior wall and cutting a hole in the outer sheeting behind the brick just to get to the whole faucet.

Tip- Make your first pour run, then go back with a 1/4" piece of stir stick or metal rod and drag it along your crack to help it settle and fill air voids. Then run your top coat and maybe use a dollar store paint brush to get it level so it doesn't look so pronounced after resealing. Apparently a pro-tip is to get a good 1-inch to either side of the crack well covered to help prevent moisture infiltration/winter which will jack that crack open. Good video.

The whole driveway and that crack sealer job should only cost you about 250 to do yourself
@rogeredrinn4592Ай бұрын
My outdoor faucet while fundamentally as you described, it was vastly different at both ends. The end rubber seal had a metal cage around the sealing washer, my SAK helped remove the old seal. At the bonnet end there was a tight soft plastic packing just under the bonnet nut, removed in pieces with a small screw driver and not replaced. Seems every manufacture of these freeze proof faucets has to put there own spin on the design. In any case your video helped . . . Thank you,

Be prepared for the weight of those 20 inch housings when filled with water and a soaked element. The first time I changed mine it slipped out of my hand and fell to the floor. The housings are also kind of slick when wet.

@DIYandSAVE3 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. Repairing the cracks with this product will seal them. Adding a coat of sealant is a bonus but not as important as filling the cracks.

How do i know if i need a sediment filter? I have well water but none of the techs who visit me have said i need one
@DIYandSAVE6 ай бұрын
Good question. For me, my 3 indicators were: 1) A yellowish color to the water in a full bathtub. 2) The silicon around sink drains were no longer clear but stained a little brown. 3) And when I opened the toilet tank, in the corners I had sediment. It looks like 1/8 of an inch of brown flour and when I touched it, it would cloud the water. That's great news if you don't need a filter

In the professional bid, what was the material proposed to do the job? Most reputable companies would use a hot rubberized crack sealant which would outperform and outlast any water or acrylic based sealant. In the short term money was saved but if an individual lives in the part of the world where weather changes are drastic the elasticity of a water based cold pour material is sub par and a temporary fix at best.
@DIYandSAVE6 ай бұрын
The professional bid was for a rubberized material. My solution was temporary and I will be looking for a better solution.

A lot of the sealer lifted off the driveway over the -40 degree winter. Some was also removed when I shoveled my driveway. I would use a more rubbery product if I were to do this again.

I have crack filled and sealed my driveway three times over the years now. Nothing works as the next year, cracks are opened back and the rubberized, or aggregate based filler is no match for asphalt movement in winter. Yes, sealed entire driveway to with Airport grade sealer.
@boots785917 күн бұрын
Depends upon the crack filler used and its apparently really important to get that thick filler liquid an 1-2" on either side of the filled crack to prevent water infiltration which is what jacks the cracks back open. Even Airport grade sealer is quite possible just the basic old school stuff vs the newer epoxies.

I’m trying place your accent. I think I hear an Irish lilt + American accent, maybe more? So, an Irish expat/immigrant who’s been in the States for decades? 🤔
@DIYandSAVE Жыл бұрын
You have a good ear. I am from Newfoundland, Canada which was settled by the Irish in the early 1800s. The accent has evolved a little over the years, but for the most part is still pretty strong. I left Newfoundland 30 years ago but managed to somehow keep the accent.
@MoPoppins Жыл бұрын
@@DIYandSAVE That’s fascinating-never knew that about Newfoundland! If you left after early childhood, a native accent is usually there to stay, or it’ll often come out when people are tired or inebriated. 😆 Interestingly, even the mere MENTION of the original locale will often trigger people’s accents. Every time I’ve heard a person who was originally from the South (but was able to COMPLETELY lose their accent) mention that they were from there, they’d go back into the drawl. These were all public figures that I heard on podcasts or in other media, and worked as journalists, actors, musicians. I feel unsettled when I can’t place an accent, but am also intrigued by the potential backstory behind it. I’ve heard people w/ a mishmash of American (from various regions of the US), British & Italian accents, and I’d wonder what their upbringing, travels, and settlement have been like. It’s peculiar to me how some people don’t pick a certain pronunciation guide and stick with it-they’ll mix British & American vowels in the same sentence. I think that I personally would code switch, but some are just “mutts” with their accents, and by extension, their identities, as well. Human development & human psychology (and not just humans)…really interesting stuff! 🧐
@DIYandSAVE10 ай бұрын
Agreed, very interesting stuff. When I make a quick visit back to Newfoundland, I notice a change in my accent from day one. I always found languages, dialects and accents interesting and even spent a few years learning French as a second language. In my current environment, I don't use it very often, but I still take advantage of it when I can. That includes, music, TV or a few coworkers that speak the language.
