Have you seen Obama mansion, how about Pelosi?, oh and Al Gores mega non- green palace? Gore said Florida would be under water by 2020.

It’s so sickening that this house was torn down. It was in phenomenal shape yet it was still destroyed.

The descriptions move much too swiftly to be able to read them in their entirety!!! What's the rush??? Should be paced at about half the speed!!! One loses the full effect of this Grand Estate. So sad.

What a shame that beautiful home was demolished>These stately homes were one of a kind and far too many of these masterpieces were detroyed.

"...she was as fantastic as the house she built. simple, yet a queen ...she could be affectionate then stern. ...lash out. ...commanded great loyalty from those around her." Better for her that her soul should have been loving, meek and humble than any mansion built for her. Her treasures were here only. Not in the next world. That's the unfortunate part. I pity her.

Reynolds Wrap was invented there? Hmm! They used to sell it for Christmas present wrapping paper with lots of different prints and styles. I wish they still had it available, it's nearly impossible to find. Just an occasional old ad here and there.

What a wasted life. All these people thought about was aquisition, wealth, and appearances. They gave no thought for the poor, only seeking to enrich themselves, living like they thought they were kings and queens. They didn't store up riches in heaven. Their earthly riches were their God.

The house should not have been torn down, but it shouldn't have been build in the first place either. The decadence and indulgence is on an extraordinary level, and like so many of these houses - it just didn't last. A pointless waste. Glad many elements of the house were auctioned, would be interesting to see where these pieces now call home. very unusual documentary, so melancholy, yet this is one of the kindest portrayals of Mrs. Dodge...

A lot of people worked to construct that house, and it was skilled labor. Likewise, it had a large staff to support it

Why have we torn down these magnificent homes from the East to the West. Don't tell me that they couldn't have been turned into a museum, club, restaurant or beautiful townhouses sold separately preserving the outside structure! That said, the former tenement house girl Anna, forgot her poverty stricken youth. Her second marriage was to a homosexual who spent her money on this house and other homes, etc. . . like water! What did he care, it was going to her children. When this home was built, the U.S. was in a depression. Automotive workers were hit hard. Forgetting that her money came from the automotive industry, she only wanted European workers as she thought that American workers could not produce such as masterpiece. Only European masters could create her Rose Terrace! And, after she caught Hugh in the boat docked in front of the house did she realize the mistakes she made. The Dodge fortune went from shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations.

Music far too overpoweringly 'rousing' for viewing the actual building rooms and gardens etc. ; it detracts from the visuals. Sadly, I had to give up and couldn't watch any of these three videos.

Almost all of the Trumbauer Mansions fell to the wrecking ball. Stotesbury spent his entire fortune, just maintaining Whitemarsh and no one was willing to spend the millions every year maintaining it. Lynnewood survived as a administration and a church that bought it. its elegant decor being mostly lost. It is the last of the great ones, but it is dire need of major repairs. All the wealth in this nation, and no one ever cared to save these landmarks of skill and craftsmanship. They were true works of art.

The robber barons of a century ago- living in phenomenal luxury and wealth while making every effort imaginable to make sure the people who built that phenomenal privilege for them remained broke and in danger. Thank you, UAW for fighting to get the workers who generated this ridiculous life for the Dodge family a bigger cut of the wealth they worked to create. The dates have changed, but the problem hasn’t. Replace the old industrialists’ names with Bezos or Walton, and the story is really the same now.

I can't imagine why this hasn't been torn down yet !! It doesn't even have wall to wall carpeting ! How can people live like this. It's like a mausoleum. At least gut out all that "ginger bread" and put in some nice plain sheetrock and dropped ceilings. Those 20 foot ceilings are so old looking. Drop those down to about 8 feet with a metal grid and square tile panel inserts, like a modern office ceiling. All that gold leaf and plaster is so passe. N'est-ce pas? (Just kidding. that whole thing was sarcasm. We lived in a similar house in NJ, but those were the comments we got most often). No we didn't have wall to wall carpeting, we had wall to wall marble from Italy, put in at behest of architects Carerre and Hastings in 1916, and we didn't feel like ripping it out or covering it up with wall to wall carpeting just because the TV set and magazines were pushing that on account of it being the cheapest method of covering a subfloor in a new house. when we bought our house it was to stop it from being torn down. Now it's owned by a pharmaceutical magnate (who may tear it down at any minute to put a proper new house that looks like a post apocalyptic movie set). I know this is an old video but I think someone may still watch it in the future, and part of my reason for commenting is to make the video come up in the searches more often and give the uploader a little juice..

This just sickens me! Why could this not have been turned into a school or college? America is so wasteful. The amazing structure. This building could have lasted centuries. America just squanders amazing buildings and homes in exchange for shiny glass boxes! Makes me want to cry. You can’t tell me with all these super rich Americans, someone could have bought this masterpiece!!
