Rameau 1683 - 1764 et non pas 1683 - 1706 .

1706 is when he composed this suite.

Typical European video. 48 seconds of silence. The verbal introduction follows and music begins at 1:30. Lovely instrument.

@@danielclairfontaine9516 Au contraire, over the years French, English, and Italian classical music videos uploaded on KZbin also began with footage, or should I write feigned artistic (“artsy-crafty”) complete silence of sufficient length that the listener ponders if their internet provider has another outage, again. Americans use such clever and convenient adjectives as Asian, European, Scandinavian, Polynesian, and others. So do other people fluent in English. From your last name you could be a native of the UK, France, (the former prefer to disassociate themselves from the Continent; the latter lose no opportunity to complain), or Canadian (also technically Americans), as well as inhabitants of the United States of America frequently referred to simply by the noun American. The protracted quiet is a bit of a bother for those of us who listen to music on KZbin when the next random selection starts and instead of mellifluous tones, one can instead hear a bloody pin drop! As to “bloody” I do not reference anything sanguine, but rather as the term my English mother said was sacrilegious, (derived from Christ’s blood on me or from God’s blood) the original meaning of which, to most individuals who use bloody has been obscured by the passage of time. For the most part bloody has been supplanted by an American usage of slang of a biological process. Have a good day.

What a great performance of one of my favourite pieces by G. Farnaby. It's also very well edited too - I love to be able to watch a true professional at work in close up (helps me when I struggle with some of the fiendish fingerings!). Forgive my ignorance but could someone tell me why there appears to be a 'short octave' (split key) on every g# and d#? I've never seen a harpsichord keyboard like this (only a short octave at the LH end of some older instruments with a smaller compass).

The split sharps are to extend the range of meantone. Here: Eb at front D# at back and G# front Ab back. the other accidentals are as per the standard arrangement: Bb, F#, C#. As you can see this adds 2 extra pure major thirds Ab-C and B-D#, to the 8 pure major 3rds of meantone on a standard 12 note per octave keyboard. It also facilitates the option to remove the meantone 'wolf' replacing the dimished 6th, G#-Eb with a 1/4 comma tempered 5th G#-D# and Ab-Eb... Of course a whole host of extra chords available with the additional pitches too. Some keyboards from that period have more or less notes per octave. Brilliant invention.

Hm. Ich kenne diese Fuge ehrlich gesagt nur als Übungsaufgabe ohne vollständigen Satz, hatte selbst dazu irgendwann mal die anderen Stimmen ergänzt. Woher kommt dieser Satz, weiß das jemand?

beautiful. But what I dont understand is this: 9 beautiful legs have been turned and decorated ........ but why not turn 4 extra legs to make a stool or chair out of? Now the harpsichord has to do with a stool that is clashing with the decoration.
