Nowadays, we can prevent ASR, are 3 things needed for ASR to manifest itself on concrete. 1) High PH, 2) reactive aggregate and 3) water / moisture. As the quality aggregates are being depleted, we're left with the lower quality aggregates (in Texas we have a lot of lime stone) lime stone swells up with moisture or water, concrete being porous allows the water to come in contact with the aggregates. The solution is to create impermeable concrete, and by negating the water to have contact with the aggregate "Problem solved". Not only solve ASR, but the rebar corrosion as well. Look up on KZbin: vaporlock 20/20 sample test.

Most PAA is shipped in normal HDPE bulk liquid storage totes and, in general, could potentially be used for storing drinking water in an emergency situation once they have been cleaned, etc.; however, we recommend checking with both the manufacturer of the specific PAA product to get the details of their specific totes as well as your state’s environmental regulatory agency on their emergency drinking water storage requirements before using any storage tote in this manner.

What is the material of the perforated pipe used in the infiltration gallery? If it is to be constructed below the river having 4.5 mts depth of the sand bed? and which one is better in the long run?

The perforated pipes are usually wire-wrapped stainless steel well screens or louvered well screens to provide suitable open area, strength and provide efficient performance. These screens allow you to control the size dimensions of the slot openings to prvent excessive sand and fines intrusion into the well screen during operation.

Infiltration galleries are constructed using porous pipe surrounded by gravel under a river or stream bed. Infiltration wells can be constructed in a similar fashion or can be drilled. Additionally, infiltration wells can be horizontal or vertical. Hope this is helpful.

Stones act as a form of primary filtration, but the real filtration is much farther down the line.

Thank you for your questions. In short, the screen pipes are actually underground, below the river completely out of sight. The water is "absorbed" into the fine mesh screen similar to the way a sponge absorbs water. The combination of rounded stones and fine mesh removes most of the grit and impurities before being pumped to the nearby pump house. Then the water is pumped once again to Boone's water treatment plant, where it is made completely drinkable and sent to the community's taps.
